64 year old T2 for 20 years needs advice

Sorry about your predicament with T2D meds. I also have that problem and wound up on insulin as a result even when my A1c was just 7.3. I can eat less than 50 carbs a day and still end up with a high fasting BS. I found a new Endo and he put me on Ozempic which is working ok for me so far. If I were to eat potatoes, rice or a dessert, I’d need rapid acting insulin and I have only had type 2 for 3 years. I had pre diabetes for many years before. They have some long acting insulins that help a lot. Levemir doesn’t cause weight gain the way others do, so that’s sometimes a good first choice. I hope the freestyle Libra works for you. I tried it and it read very low on me and was not accurate at all. Don’t beat yourself up if you have to go on insulin, you need to prevent damage to your body. I’d get a Dexcom CGM if if you have to go in insulin. It’s more accurate and has alarms for low’s and highs. I thought it was overkill when my doctor recommended one and now, I love mine. It helps me stay in better control. Good luck!!

Ken. I’m in agreement with Mourie. I’ve been T2 for 30+ years early on I too was on metformin and Glipizide
After a couple years of heavy carb counting my Endo Doc. Determined I was allergic to both. I’ve now have been on Novalog and trulicity And we’ll controlled .
I do have to say the biggest thing I’ve done was to get a Dexcom CGM . It has been a literal life saver. And it is coved by most medical insurances . And 100% covered by Medicare . It will tell you how fast your BS is going up so you can adjust insulin dose. Or how fas it’s going down so you can add carbs.
