Ah help with PDA

Hi all,

I am starting the Omnipod on 2/28.
I have a question about where you carry the PDA. My job is one where I won’t be able to run back and forth to my purse sooo what do you carry it in? Someone suggested a IPhone case, but is that to small?

Any help would be great!!

You will not need to have the PDA with you at all times. Once the Pod is programmed with your basal, it will continue to run, you will only need the PDA for checking your blood sugar or when it is time to eat.

Here is something I have used: http://www.rei.com/product/813480
It fits the PDA and my lancet device just fine, and I keep a couple extra test strips in the battery department.

Kc’s right. Only need the PDA to eat or check. I’ve been looking for a small cross shoulder purse to carry my PDA, some strips and my Dexcom when I’m at parties etc and don’t want to keep my purse with me but want something that would keep my hands free and have fast access. Found a perfect one but it was $110 !! A bit more than I wanted to pay for occasional use. But that’s an option if you want to keep it with you. Something small and discreet but nice.

While you don’t need to have it on your person at all times, you do need to have it close if it decides to start beeping at you - letting you know you’ve hit 20 (or 10) units of insulin, letting you know that the pod is going to expire (or has expired). I was in the middle of a big presentation - just once, mind you - and I had an occlusion and it would not stop beeping. I had to stop, rip the thing off, and go throw it in a trash can in the hall so that I could continue my presentation. That would have been a good time to have it on-hand so that I could have made it stop.

Not to scare you with Pod horror stories - that was rare event - but the one time did teach me to keep it close during Big Deals.

I also like to keep mine handy in order to (discreetly) test regularly, even during meetings.

Perhaps you can get a little purse, like Barb suggested, since a fannie pack isn’t terribly fashion-forward. I prefer a purse with a long strap that I can throw on my shoulder.

Thanks everyone! I work in an enviorment where I simply cannot run back and forth to my purse (and if I kept it on me its bound to be snatched and stolen) I work in a police station with victims soo I need it pretty much to be on me in case something goes wrong with the pod or with a client or a crisis somewhere else in the building

I bought this at Walmart for about $15… it’s the perfect size for the PDA (even with the original white silicone pouch on it) and it has a loop so I slide my belt through it and it’s attached to my hip.
