It is time for me to replace my 6 year old Animas 2020 pump and I am thinking of getting the Minimed Veo (I am Canadian). My reasons are: 1) I would never use the Ping meter, as I find it too large and I just don’t like the One Touch meters. 2) I want a CGM. In Canada the Veo comes with the old Medtronic sensors, but it will be compatible with the new Enlite sensors when they hit the market. I don’t think I would use the CGM until the Enlite sensors are out. If I get the Ping I would have to upgrade to the Vibe when it comes out at my cost. 3) I also like the new Link USB meter that is coming out with the Veo, which is the same as the meter I currently use with my Animas pump (nice and small).
I have no issues with Animas and their support has been great. In six years I have only needed to replace the pump once. I will miss the colour screen and the lithium batteries that last me for months.
Completely a personal decision. Personally after being on MM for 5yrs, but Animas the past 6yrs, I dont have much faith in MM Corp. I left due to poor customer service. I had to have my pump replaced every year I had it with MM, never had to replace my Animas. MM may beat other companies to get things on the market, but their technology doesnt always turn out to be the most reliable.
That is exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for. I have only replaced my Animas pump once in six years and the support has been great. I guess this is one of those cases where you wonder if the grass is greener on the other side, or if I am missing out on something.
I haven't used Animas, but have been using MM for over 15 years. I've only had to deal with MM support on a few occasions, usually related to infusion sets, and support has been OK for me. When I obtained my 2nd pump from them, there was a misunderstanding of what my portion of payment was, that took quite a while to resolve, but it was finally worked out to my satisfaction. I've used each pump for 4-5 years, and only had 1 that I sent back for replacement, and that was because the backlight stopped working.
If you check out the MM and Animas groups, you'll hear of many other users experience. Both companies have good and bad. Several folks have posted with detailed comparisons of them.as this question comes up often !
I think feature-wise they are very close, and it comes down to what your preferences are. Being water proof and meter-remote are key selling points for Animas, which you have not indicated a priority. Wanting integrated CGM is (has been) the reason most lean towards MM. I used MM CGMS for 3 years, but then switched to Dexcom. Having a separate device for CGMS is not an issue for me, as it is for others.
