Animas Change in Loaner Policy for Travel

I called Animas yesterday to arrange for a temporary loaner pump for my 9 YO T1D son to have during an upcoming out-of-town trip. Last summer, they had sent one upon request.

The rep told me that they had suspended this program due to its popularity, and that they are only offering it to people traveling outside their country. They were willing to drop ship one overnigtht if something were to happen while we were out of town.

We'll be fine, I'm sure, but I really liked the security of having an extra pump on hand just in case.

Hi, I believe this is the case in UK too now. You could put a call out for anyone who has an old animas pump (a ping? Or earlier version…2020?) to borrow for your hols in case of a problem? Someone somewhere may have an old out-of-warranty pump they could lend.

We’ve had a discussion like this on the Insulin Pumpers UK forum very recently and there is a very generous woman in Scotland who can help us UKers out! There must be someone in US who could help…

Good luck

I take my old pump that is off warranty but works just fine with me when I travel now instead of the loaner. Plus I always take my pen needle with me just in case as well.

Interesting. Most businesses drop programs because they are NOT popular. Clearly a money issue for them. It was a good idea to do this but I think they were the only ones doing it. So much for product differentiation!

This is disappointing to hear since I really liked this service as well ! I mostly used it for overseas travel anyway but having that security was comforting.

Bad things usually happen when companies are purchased by large companies. This is no exception. I would expect the Vibe will probably not appear in the US and a new Roche pump will debut in the 2015 timeframe. Such is life!
