Any andvice? ASAP

my BG waking up today was 59, i thought i over treated it. But turns out thank God NO =) 2 hours later i was 70!! GREAT =D

My sister was eating some quality street chocolates, i didn’t join her for a while but the i couldn’t resist so i was like “what the hell, i was 70!! i deserve some” and i joined.
A while after eating (which is now), i tested and i was 40!! i don’t know why, i didn’t do anything for my BG to go down.

My question is, should i go eat something, or should i wait a while (for the chocolate to show its effect)??? i don’t want to go high :frowning: :frowning:
I’m confused

Thanks a lot

Take some Glucose!!

Id rather correct the high that results from the chocolate hitting you later than deal with the low right now…especially since its been falling this morning.

I cant remember the last time I tried to treat with chocolate so I have no idea how my BG reacts…BUT your treatment of chocolate milk for a low BG sounds delicious!

How do you calculate the carbs? Just adding the milk carbs and then a measured portion of the syrup? Sounds difficult with a low on my hands.

Hey guys,
thanks for the advice
Shortly after i posted this, it was lunch time, so i ate.
An hour later I’m 75!!! =] =] =]

Thanks again :]

I’m almost ashamed to admit I sometime treat moderate lows with snack size kitkat bars. I eat two of those bad boys and the sugar in the wafer part hits me pretty quickly. This will only work for a BS above 65 for me. Anything lower and I do the milk and hersey’s trick like Dave does.

I know this reply is after the fact, but when treating a low, I was always told to take fast acting glucose, and not something like chocolate, which takes longer to absorb into your system due to the fat content. It will raise your BG, but later on (for me it will be a few hours later). With a low like 40, don’t take the chance-take glucose tabs instead.

Can relate to your frustration of being out and having a low. Frustrates me to no end! And I also tend to bolus away my highs, falling into the low trap, too.

I don’t use chocolate to treat either, my treatment of choice is 4 starburst candies. Yumm yumm, already the perfect measurement and it works fast. Tastes so much better then those awful dextrose tabs.

Juicy juice boxes are fantastic for me! 100% juice and they are fast acting. Just that stupid straw plastic gives me problems when I’m really low!

I like starburst, too. They are quick.

Ha! I used to keep juicy juice boxes in the car and have had many a hot fruit punch. Absolutely disgusting! When I got ready to sell my old car, there were juice stains on the carpet, console, and seats.

Too funny.

I use Jelly Belly jelly beans…I get “buble gum” and “cotton candy” flavor and keep a bag in my purse at all times! I use glucotabs, but rather not…don’t care for them, it is like eating tums! Chocolate takes too long, regular pepsi will bring me up NOW and fast. Juice kinda upsets my stomach.

smarties are good for a fast acting treatment. but at 40 you will need to eat another snack right after that something slower with some fat. graham crackers with cream cheese is my daughters fav.
