Happy Weekend!

I like The Book of Better: Life with Diabetes Can’t Be Perfect. Make It Better, by Chuck Eichten.

It’s a quick read with plenty of whimsical artwork. The author is a T1D and focuses on pump use but his overall philosophy is great. Any improvement in life happens on the margins. Using this relative, instead of absolute, yardstick provides just the right amount of elasticity to motivate yet not becoming discouraging.

Diabetes Rising by Dan Hurley

Had just finished reading “One Second After” by William Forstchen when I was first diagnosed with T1. Unfortunate timing.

I want to second David_dns’s great list! The first book I read was Jenny Ruhl’s Blood Sugar 101 and it was a huge help! I went on to Dr. Bernstein’s book and others, but Blood Sugar 101 was such a readable and thorough place to start for a beginner! I will always be grateful for it!

Best wishes to all!

Very cool Marie!

Marty, thanks for the kind words. Jenny Ruhl is a member of TuD, or used to be at any rate.

I’m reading this book right now. I can’t remember if I downloaded it from reading this post, or whether it was from watching a documentary on Netflix that also mentioned it, but in either case, it was in my to-read list. It’s very interesting!! It’s mentioned things regarding insulin and its interaction with the rest of the body that I’ve never even heard of before, and that will hopefully help me in my weight-loss efforts (I’m only on chapter 5).

@jen thanks for sharing this! I really want to make a nice list of all of these books so we can have it as a resource for the community and new members especially. And also when TuD is on the road at events… Something really unique to hand out and share “from all of us at TuDiabetes” with hugs and support!

Yikes! That is unfortunate… :slight_frown:

Another great book that summarizes a lot of research and provides great information on a wide variety of topics in diabetes management is Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas (I think it would be great for plain ol’ adults, too).
