Well I can totally always feel my highs or tell if my sugar is on the rise, and I can normally feel my lows. Sometimes now, that I am pregnant, I won’t feel my lows until I am really low like below 50 or sometimes till I am in my 30s. Which is kind of scary. This also brings another question… Any of you feel like your blood sugar might be high and you check and it is perfectly fine. I was feeling as if my sugar was high and I checked and I am 78. I was looking for my ketone strips to check to see if possibly I had ketones, but I just can’t seem to find them. Hopefully ketones are not the case, drinking lots of water though just in case… Plus I am pregnant and diabetic, water is our friend.
Love to hear from you all and your experiences with feeling your highs/lows and such!
Also, one other thing… This could just be the fact that I am 23 weeks pregnant and the baby is getting bigger but something else that worried me making me thing my sugar was high was that I have went to the bathroom quite a bit within the past couple of hours. But sugar is 78 - - - hmmm. Could it just be hormones making me feel this way?
my eyes I dont know how to explain it I can feel the high in my eyes and then later in my head. with lows its always the small of my back, If i act weird Brian always checks there first.
Hey Hollie congrats on your pregnancy! I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant before i got pregnant i could feel my lows and highs ALL the time but since I’ve been pregnant i don’t feel my lows as much for example the other day i was @ 43 i felt just fine, and when i feel like I’m too high i check and i’m @ 115/120… so you are not alone!
your sugar has nothing to do with your trips to the restroom…As your baby grow bigger you’ll find yourself spending more time in the restroom… I’m only 27 weeks and I make a trip to the potty every 10 mins…
I also started feeling my lows at a lower level. My endo said that it is fine because lower levels are normal even in non-diabetic pregnancy. I still feel when I go below 50 and I treat when I am below 65. If I go below 70 during the night then I eat 5g of carb just to prevent it from going low.
I have never felt my highs until I was high for hours. Sometimes I feel severe highs because I feel really thirsty, but sometimes I’m thirsty for other reasons and then figure out that I wasn’t even high. Given that I am having very few highs that last for hours during pregnancy, I haven’t felt the highs.
I’m drinking lots of water and peeing a lot too, but as the others said, I think that this is very normal for pregnancy even without diabetes. I take advantage of my bladder as an “alarm clock” to wake me up during the night to check my blood sugar.
Hope that you are still doing well I’m just about to start week 23 too
Hi, I’m starting my 26th week and also have the same going on - I used to always be able to tell when I was low (~70 or so or below), but now I can be in the 40s and not even know it (I’m glad to have a dexcom!).
Other than having to pee more often, though, I don’t really feel high when I’m not (although like Kristin I really never could tell when I was high until I was high for hours, which I haven’t been very often recently/while pregnant).
Congrats and good luck w/ your pregnancy!
Same here! I am 17 weeks and used to be very sensitive to my BG readings. Now, I don’t feel lows until the 30s. I will feel the highs at 170. I havent had an increase in potty usage though.
