Anyone else coping with kidney failure?

My T1 other half has had CKD for seveal years. Recently things have got worse. The doctors at the renal unit are kind, but don't even look for a way to make things better.[ I suspect they've actually made them worse!] all they say is to expect to go on dialysis in a couple of years time. I'm after at least stabilising the situation if not improving it. To that end I'm devising a low protein/lo carb diet. It means eating mainly veggies, but we like them. I'm working up some good recipes and wondered if anyone had any worth passing on

Hi Hana. I couldn't possibly offer you advice as I have determinjed there is not a 'One Size fits all' diet/receipe out there!
I can and do however empathies with you both and respect the courage you display. This diseaas requires that each of us reach a place in our lives where we make a stand our ourselves. Reading this and past posts I am confident you will make your own way and succeed. Best Wishes.

Several years ago my primary care physician became concerned about my kidneys. He changed me from Metformin to insulin and sent mo to the kidney doctor. One of the first things he told me, before he even tested my urine etc., was not to take any meds that are processed in the kidneys unless absolutely necessary. I know you asked for recipes, but this situation made me think of this. My first thought would be to check his meds. If any are processed in the kidneys, I would suggest looking for alternates.

For my problem, turned out not to be anything. Dr. said I so little protein in the urine he might as well say I didn't have any. At 71, I had lost only 1% of my kidney function. Again he stressed no drugs processed in the kidneys.

I have a low-carb cookbook that I love. Everyday Low-Carb Cooking by Alex Haas. I am not a person who likes to cook and I don't want to buy lots of ingredients that I may use only once and have to throw the rest away. This cookbook uses things that I usually keep on hand, and he uses the same things in multiple recipes.

thanks Ila
my husband is a T1, so obviously his medication is based around insulin. I'll check the other stuff. He has blood pressure medicine too. I'd like to get his weight down to deal with that. Icook everything we eat from scratch and I enjoy cooking I'll look at that book
