I asked my Omnipod customer rep about using rechargeable batteries in the pdm and she said that it hasn’t been tested so they don’t recommend it. Doesn’t seem like it should be a problem. Has anyone used rechargeables in their pdm? Any problems?
I do. I use two sets. One is in the charger and the other is in the PDM. I change them out every seven days.

I’ve seen it discussed before here and on other forums and I think the consensus has been that:
a) Rechargeables don’t last as long as regular batteries
b) The “remaining charge” meter is not accurate for rechargeable batteries because of the totally different discharge characteristics they have; it may go quickly from showing fully charged to nearly empty. This is actually a problem with many electronic devices that were not made specifically to measure the capacity of rechargeable batteries; they are just different.
I don’t use rechargeables but if I did I’d make sure to always carry an extra set of non-rechargeables with me just in case.
Eric is right, they are not as good as regular batteries.
But I use them all the time. I did notice once that the batt meter showed 1/2 full during a test and all of a sudden they were dead. I use the energizer rechargeble ones that have the 15 min charger. I had to recharge and then do my correction. I usually have an extra set but with 3 kinds in the house, I’m sure my extras went into some toy or mp3 player…now they know.
Rechargeable batteries are okay if you know how long they last. They do not register correctly with the battery life thing on devices. I would use them, but I don’t have the memory to know when to change them. I use regular duracel or energizers.
