Are you an Animas Insulin Pump user? Introduce yourself here

Congrats and good luck. Know that there is a significant learning curve and things may not be stable at first. I recommend reading the pump manual page by page and bringing any questions. Also start to think about programming the pump and tweaking doses until you fine tune your basals for the different "time zones".

Thanks Zoe, I plan on taking the manual with me on vacation next week to get in some reading time while waiting for planes, etc. What do you mean when you referenced "time zones?

That's my name for the different blocks of time you set up for different basal rates. Many of us have several different "time zones" where we have different doses to match our basal needs at different times of day and night. It's one of the biggest advantages of the pump.

Hey everyone !

Matt I have been using the one touch ping for 6 months now and I have never had one leak.

Matt, I find that the leaks happen when the inset is not inserted at the proper angle.

Hello,

I apologize if you've covered this but ....

Has anyone uploaded the "COMMENTS" from the METER to Diasend successfully? If so, would you mind giving me a hint or two? I am a Windows 8 & 7 user.

Thanks in advance,
~BA

I changed my site and got blood everywhere. :(

Happens, sometimes, Nichole, it's called a "gusher". The first time it happens is the worst but it's always a little startling. I grab tissues which are closer and then head for the paper towels.

Nichole, Zoe is right. The first time is the worst. For me, it really scared me and I didn't think it would ever stop bleeding. Now I just make sure I have tissues right by me when I change my set.

Re: bleeding, it is important to quickly spot blood leaking into your infused insulin. Need to replace that sucker ASAP.

I didn't feel any pain and I would not have even notice but when I took the tube out to put it on the cartridge and prime I noticed the blood on my pump and the counter and then realized it was all over the end of the tubing. I was a little shaken up and took it out. The tissue thing sounds like a great idea.

Hello everyone. I am now officialy a pumper. Had my pump start this morning and everything went well. I am so glad I no longer have to take up to 10 shots per day.

Congrats, Bill! Don't hesitate to ask questions; the first few weeks are definitely a learning curve until you get everything tweaked.

Congrats Bill and welcome to the pumping world! My son who was diagnosed last year starting on the pump in late October and he really likes is better than the multiple shots per day.

This is a must-read

Great article, Etta Amy; you might want to post it on the main forum so more people can read and comment (it's about the big business of treating Type 1).

Does anyone use Symblin? I was put on it today but I wanted to know if anyone has seen results with it as far as glucose levels and weight go. Thanks!

Nichole, there is even a group here with people who use symilin.

I personally have no experience with it and therefore am no help...

I tried Symlin, Nicole. It is very hard to dose correctly, as well as adjust your insulin dosage for it. I found I was able to cut my insulin dose significantly but it did nothing at all for weight loss. Everyone is different in their responses to it, and some people have good luck with weight loss or BG or both. But it definitely takes awhile to figure out.
