Art made with diabetes supplies. Share it here!

Hi all, I just wanted to let you know that as of today, August 04, I sent to Dereck and Zoey the contributions and information of the few members who contacted us, or stated here that they wanted to participate on the Pre-existing Condition Art Show.

If by any reason you miss the call and still want to participate feel free to get in contact directly with Dereck Cruz, he is a member of the group and the community.

Here is the list of members that are participating:

  • Brigitte: TuFlowers
  • Karin: (needle caps) and (the test strip pic)
  • Manny Hernandez: Hope
  • Alan Creed: “It Takes Heart” …one month of injections
  • Maureen Nolan: NEEDLES AND EGGS, OH MY!

I’ll probably work on something new this week.

Thank you all,

Within a year of diagnosis I made a collage showing a series of peaks and valleys with my used test strips - guess we humans like to create and need release for our pain - it is nice to find a community supporting both needs

That is fantastic, I’m only sorry I haven’t seen it before thankyou so much.

It was suggested that I post this here - Polly Urea and Gluco John celebrate World Diabetes day! More ‘diabotics’ at http://diabotica.blogspot.com

Those are great Alan! Thank you!

Hello Everybody, Please take a look at Express your Diabetes here on TuDiabetes: umbrella that combines all diabetes awareness programs developed by Diabetes Hands Foundation, including Drawing Diabetes and Diabetes Supplies Art. We are now supporting Lee Ann Thill from The Butter Compartment as she has declared the first-ever Diabetes Art Day, September 1, 2010.I

Feel free to post there artwork you had posted here before. The idea is to get as much art out there for September first, first Diabetes Art Day ever!!

The Aesthetics of Health Care Technology

The Flux Factory, 39-31 29th st, Long Island City, NY (directions)

January 14 - 21
Opening Friday, January 14, 8 pm

This body of work is a collection of Sara Krugman's aesthetic research on the possibilities of health care technology. Originally based in sculpture and installation, Krugman is working towards practical and literal use of these aesthetics. The Aesthetics of Health Care Technology is a mix of science, artistic research and the artist's personal exploration of the relationship between human and machine. Krugman's practice as an artist and designer has merged with her experience living with Type I diabetes. Her work explores how the physicality and aesthetics of health care technology affect the emotional and psychological connection to intimate machines, and further, how that connection effects our ability to use the highly developed functions of these machines as well as practice self care. Inspired by Louise Bourgeois' brutal use of the body's form, Sherry Turkle's understanding and research of the human-machine relationship and Ray Kurzweil's work towards humans successful integration with technology, Krugman's work is geared towards inciting change in health care technology. It is the artist's hope that this work illuminates the importance of the physical and emotional relationship between humans and the technology we use to assist our own bodies.

Here is my latest series of paintings dealing with the constant, never-endng messages, thoughts, and tasks associated with being a Diabetic.

Thank you Judith! It was very cathartic to create these.

Hi Tanya! I love your pieces! They are really great. When doing my own artwork I find that many times the process of repetition is cathartic to me too, it works like therapy. I LOVE them!!! Specially the first one on the top.

Tanya, I wanted to invite you to two other places we you can post artwork here in the community, places for Art and Diabetes, when not related to supplies, like your second piece.

Express Your Diabetes and Drawing Diabetes. Please post them there as well.

I think the work is really strong. I especially love the first image, and would love to know more about it. Can you speak more about your process?

Hiya,
I do many artist things (including things for my diabetes), I’ve got an insulin pen holder which is useful. There’s a glimpse of it in my Barclay’s Take One Small Step video(Take One Small Step Video). I’m hoping to win (with public support) so I can develop more things for people to enjoy

Dusty, great video. Thanks for sharing! Wow, you have a complete studio… all kinds of stuff. Very interesting work too.

Do you have pictures of the piece you used the supplies. Please post them here to share with all of us. I was not 100% sure if I was looking at the right one.
