Audible alarm broken

Two weeks ago, I was pulling my meter out of my pocket and dropped it in a parking lot. Since then, the audible alarm no longer works. I called Dexcom about this and they told me that I would be responsible for replacement since I dropped it. Everything else still works, but the audible alarm (very important) does not.

Since it has been over a year since I first got my CGM, the customer service representative from Dexcom told me that we could submit to get a new meter. I have had to go through the whole process again of submitting BG logs and getting a letter of medical necessity from my physician. They have now asked for transcripts from my conversation with the customer service representative.

In the meantime, I have been going on with my normal daily routines, which include intense mountain bike rides of 2-3 hours, three to four times per week. Needless to say, I have come to rely on my Dexcom to warn me when I need to eat during those rides.

My question to everyone is, has anyone else had this problem of the speaker breaking after dropping it? How did Dexcom handle the situation when you spoke with them?

I’m pretty disappointed that my CGM is not more durable, especially since I rely on it so much, but also since I am active and it does sometimes get knocked around.

I’m sorry about your mishap with the receiver. It does upset a person when accidents like that happen. While I can’t really give you good advice about the durability of the receiver, there was a post by AaronM about how to modify the carrying case so that you could wear it on a cord around your neck. That might work while biking. Check this out if you might be interested.
