I am going to be starting a full time job and was wondering when others test their basal when you are working all the time.
I have fasted for half days when testing basal. In fact I don’t think I have ever gone more than 12 hours without eating. If you are unable to do that then use the weekend to do basal testing. Of course if you have to make a correction bolus or you go low and have to correct then the basal test ends for that period.
Is there an easier way than going by what is online. Some of the instructions make it so hard with all the rules is there some instructions like basal testing for dummies, lol?
Thanks
Lori
I may have gotten my instructions from one of the books frequently mentioned on here but basically you don’t want to have any active insulin on board when you start. If you have to correct a low the test ends or if you have to correct a high the test ends. I don’t know what the parameters are for high corrections during testing. So using those guidelines you can plan to test your basal anytime of day for however long you want or until you need to make a correction.
I don’t ever test my basal. Or I always test my basal. I figure fasting BG is a good indicator of where basal rates are at and just use those times when I’m not eating, mostly morning/ pre-dinner as indicators of what my basal is doing. I am not 100% sure that basal testing works that well as I think fasting is different than putting it through it’s paces involving meals, life, etc.
That full time job I was talking about is no more.I just couldn’t handle not being able to do my normal routine as I was put on shift work.My health is far more important,as I don’t even need the money.I am working about 15 hours a week.My current job is more busier in the summer months.I now know my boundaries.
