How do I know which one is more critical and important to me among basal and bolus insulins.
I used to take lispro(humalog u100) as bolus, glargine(lantus u100) as basal.
They’re equally important. One manages your BG between meals (basal), the other is used for corrections and to cover your meals (bolus).
Hi @Hassan7. I think we need some clarification to understand what you’re asking.
“Used to”–does that mean you’re not using those insulins now? If not, what are you taking?
“more critical and important”
As @Christopher5 says, they do different things, so they’re both critical and important. Are you perhaps wondering whether there are alternatives that might work better for you? Because there are many different kinds of basal and rapid-acting insulins on the market now and some people see dramatic differences between, say, humalog and novolog or detemir (Levemir) and glargine (Lantus), while others don’t. There’s a lot of information here if you do a site search on the names of various insulins.

Aware of the different brand names, but I think all basal have associated risks/problems
All medications of whatever type have associated risks. That’s not an automatic reason to avoid them. It’s just a reason to evaluate the seriousness of the risks, weigh them against the risks associated with not taking the medication, and decide which set of risks represent the greatest danger—the risk of taking the medication, or the risk of not taking it.
To put it another way: in order to worry about side effects, you must first be alive.
Thanks
