Hi all . . .I cannot find my manual. I got a low battery warning tonight on Willow’s pump. this is the first one since being on the pump! So after she fell asleep - I got out a new battery, and just changed it. But when the pump turned back on it read 0 insulin in cartridge - which is not true bc I had changed out the cartridge this morning. So there is like 40 units in it. (yes that will last her about 5 days)
So my question is this . . .was there something I was supposed to do before changing out the battery? Or will I always have to remove the cartridge, rewind, and reload to get the pump to detect how much insulin is available?
I always wait to change the battery when I have to load a new cartridge. It seems to be easier that way. I change the cartridge and my infusion at once too. It will always say 0 units after you change the battery.
If you have to change the battery and you still have insulin left, leave everything intact and hit “load cart” then prime out a drop" It should be fine after that. I left my battery in for 3 days after i got a “low battery warning” The lithium batteries are expensive but very worth it
So how long do you think you can go past the low battery warning with a lithium battery. What will happen if the battery completely dies? I did not want to risk it dying in the middle of the night. Hmmm . . .I was hoping to get a little more than the 5 weeks on this battery - but I will not complain!
Oh also - I get my batteries covered under DME with my insurance. We have really good insurance - out DME is covered 100%.
If you happen to read this at this late hour, according to Animas, you must do a complete rewind, etc. in order to reset the pump following a battery change. Otherwise it may not pump insulin accurately, if at all. It will stay at 0 units until it is reset. If this is the case, no insulin will be delivered, and the BG levels could rise drastically in a short time. If you have questions, do not hesitate to call Animas’ 24-hour help line. I have gone 2+ weeks after the low battery warning. When you have 3 minutes left, your screen will die and it will scream over & over till you replace the battery(still delivery insulin though). When I get the low battery warning, I start carrying a battery with me, and change it when it starts screaming.
