I guess not totally diabetes related but is anything really not connected!?!
What do people use to heal/minimize scars from incisions/wounds/site infections, etc…
Thanks for your ideas!!
The plastic surgeons I’ve met all swear by using plain paper medical tape over their incisions for many months following procedures… The only debate between them was how long… 4-6 months seemed popular… To prevent the incision areas from stretching and making ugly scars
Not sure how well that technique might apply to anything other than linear incisions
I think it depends on what caused or could be causing a scar, what type of scar it is and where it is.
I was injured accidentally twice on my face once by my kitty when I tried to wash grout off her paws who decided to climb my face- always clip nails in advance- and once when I opened my car door into my face by accident. The first time I took some prednisone I had left over and it pretty much stopped any scar from forming. The plastic surgeon I saw said that was the best thing to do and how did I know that. I can’t remember what I did the second time but that one took longer to heal and I was more worried about a scar. I had no sign of anything from the kitty scratch and over time nothing from the car door.
I also used mederma which has onion extract. There are plenty of scar treatment gels and other treatments depending on what type of scar you have. For cat scratches I always put some bactine on immediately and that stops my allergic/inflammation reaction. I find most of my cuts heal better with antibiotic ointment and bandaids.
I was actually wondering about Mederma. I saw it on clearance from 30 to 15 bucks last night and thought maybe I would give it a try. I have been using all sorts of different things I’ve read about…maybe good old Neosporin and band aids is it!
Thanks!
I at first thought this was for say scar tissue build up around injection or insertion sites. That being said I have found that the Pro-active (acne treatments you see on TV) actually work quite well healing up sites with less scaring and skin damage. The Rrepairing lotion seems to be the key. Apply after shower daily and mostly healed up by next rotation to that site.
Thank you!
I like mederma, it is oil free and the children’s version only has a very mild scent. $15-30 sounds pretty expensive to me though? You can get mederma advanced scar gel for $10 at amazon and often free shipping if you have a prime account.
Thank you!
