Yep, and I just checked, it was the same day as you, the 28th! course I didn’t have the 38 (ouch) but I changed my infusion set at 11 AM and then kept seeing the numbers go up all day into 300-land. by 5:00 I finally got a clue, and changed it again. The cannula was kinked to a fare-thee-well. finally got down to 219 at bedtime, and then woke up at 5 AM with a low. it was NOT a good day, for either of us! hope today is better.
I had some freaky days on our trip to California earlier this year.
The day we went to LA, we parked and walked to the first thingy and it was low for a while, I kept eating my stash of carbs and it didn’t seem to want to come up at all, I was trying to test. Finally, when it went up, it was like 4 or 5 hours of running high before it came down. By the time I got it sort of normal, like below 200, I realized I’d shot most of the juice in my pump and I had left supplies, etc. @ my in-laws house in Carlsbad, CA, like 2-3 hours away so I didn’t get to eat much of the tasty snacks at Urth Cafe. Although we did see Amanda Seyfirth, a guy from Glee and some character actor I recognized but can’t name off the top of my head. I made it home with like .7U left,
I think you may have had a counterregulation. That is when your body reacts to a harsh low with a cascade of hormones which release the stored glucose in your body. Often you will be left seriously high for hours and your body will be very insulin resistant.
The 28th for me was also not a great day:
7:39am - 4.5 (81)
10:32am - 11.6 (209)
1:27pm - 13.2 (238)
3:56pm - 6.0 (108)
6:03pm - 12.3 (221)
7:39pm - 18.5 (333)
9:28pm - 14.0 (252)
I’ve been having allergies and hormones lately and it makes my blood sugar go high for no reason. I can test, eat nothing, and test again a few hours later and be high. And I can’t eat anything without shooting into double digits, even though I’ve cranked up all my pump settings. Very annoying and I’m hoping it ends soon.
I agree with bsc that it looks like yours was a rebound. Curious as well why you test every 10 minutes? That’s not really enough time to see any change in BG (although I often test twice in a row with a high just to confirm it’s accurate).
Yes. I’m sort of having that issue today, though with less extremes than you. Woke up at 110…then went up to 286, then 260, etc. (I’m sick)
Taking hours and hours and many correction to come down even a little…
Yep it has my bs’s are all over the place MANYTIMES. May I ask if u overate to compacate that low? Or just like Marie said if u pump changing out the set might help
i have been told i was insulin resistent at camp
i dont test every 10 minutes i just kept feeling like i was really low
what do u mean by compacate the low?
Not much worse than feeling low when you are high. I hate that!
I think she meant compensate. Like did you go crazy on the carbs when you tested at 38.
My spelling sucks here lately LOL! Yep MossDog is right that’s what I meant
oh ok haha and no i didnt. i hadnt had any insulin b4 tht cuz i was 38 when i woke up
LOL! Well there goes my idea out the door! LOL! Even though it shouldn’t matter how much u ate at 11:30 pm for a low in the morning.
38 when you woke up is sort of tricky, as I think that it can trigger Somoyogi (sp?) effect on top of DP, or perhaps first and then the DP still hits aftewards so a treatment, even a conservative one, can pile up w/ all the other stuff and produce the sort of higher numbers afterwards that you ran into? I am always very careful w/ carbs in the morning and, once I get it fixed, I will drift towards the light end of the carb spectrum to try to avoid that sort of thing.
Yep, I have days like this, especially when I’m before my period. Also, I know that when I have a bad low in the middle of the night, I will also spend the rest of the day higher than normal (generally in the 200s, but sometimes higher). I guess due to that whole liver-dumping thing. Also, if I have a stressful day, this too can cause my BGs to go up and stay up. Finally, I will see days like this if I’m really run down/tired or getting sick. When I have a good night’s sleep I will often find that my BGs are more stable.
