Bleeding under the pod

Friday evening I noticed I had a small bruise at the edge of the adhesive for the pod. I didn’t think much of it because I thought I had bumped into the doorway earlier but didn’t knock the pod off. However yesterday I noticed the bruised area was getting larger and then I looked at the cannula window. I could see blood so I proceeded to change the pod. When I removed the last little bit of pod adhesive I was shocked because blood spurted out of the puncture site and down my arm and onto the floor. Has this happened to anyone else? I totally don’t understand this because my bg numbers were great for two days before I removed the pod. I had a dickens of a time stopping the bleeding plus today I have about a 3 inch bruise on my arm. Very strange…

I experience this last night when changing to a new pod. I had a bruise in cannula insertion spot and when remove the pod completely I stated to bleed, my pod spot was my abdomen, it was painful. Before changing the pod I only had a minor skin irritation, but after taking it off it got nasty.

Is your bruise really sore today? Mine is sore and also has a hard spot at cannula insertion spot. I hope someone can tell us WHY this happens.

Yes mine is sore today, the cannula insertion site it feels a bit hard! here is the tread that Spooky started about bleeding on the site insertion:

Thanks Tony and Spooky. I guess the only thing different about my ‘bleeder’ was that my bg were just about perfect prior to changing the pod. The only reason I did change it was because the bruise appeared to be growing in size overnight. As soon as I took the adhesive part away from my arm was when it surprised the heck out of me.

Spooky, I’m glad you started your thread and got so much good advice.
Tony, Thank you for the link about this subject.

Your welcome Mayumi. My BG was on 93 when I changed my pod, and it was the same, as soon I took it off, the bleed started! But I’m glad you found the way to work it out as me. Good luck!

Yes, this has happened to me before. I’m glad it doesn’t happen often.

I agree with you DiabeticizME. As I said earlier, it surprised the heck out of me. The bruise is getting more and more colorful

It happened to me on the first pod change. Called the CDE and asked if I can expect this often and he told me “no”. In seven months it may have happened one more time for me.

My numbers were good then as well.

Robin,
That is comforting to know that it shouldn’t happen too often. I don’t know about Tony’s bruise, but mine today is bigger than the size of the pod when it was applied to my arm. And it had to happen to my favorite ‘spot’ to put it too :frowning:

I thought the little hard knot after wearing the pod for 3 days was naturally I have almost had a knot out of the 10 or so pods I have used also it was really bad when i put the pod on downwards on my inner thigh and ended up having to walk a billion millions for the job

You’ve raised an interesting point. To be honest I never checked for a little hard knot until I had this bruise. Spooky mentioned that the hard spot could be from pooling insulin and that might be right. I will have to ask my CDE the next time I talk to him.
