Byetta Use

I have been using Byetta for over a year. My BG spikes after meals even with a Novolog bolus. I am also very insulin resistant. Byetta holds down the spikes and surpresses my appetite. Anybody have personal experience? I take doses before breakfast and dinner.

I have taken Byetta before. I would suffer from nausea sometimes while on the drug. Byetta does several things like it will slow your digestion rate so you won’t get hungry quickly, it also regulates your liver to not metabolize glycogen into glucose and put it in your blood stream, it gets the pancreas to make insulin etc.

I have was told to inject byetta at least an hour before I eat. Normally people check themselves 2 hours after they eat. If you take byetta less then 30 mins before you eat you will not be getting the full benefit of the drug.

Are you doing this or how were you instructed to take byetta.

As Christalyn said timing is everything for effect when on Byetta. Are you doing low carb? How high are your spikes?

My endo has advised me to inject my Byetta exactly one hour before my meal. Byetta has been minimally effective for me. In general, if I keep my meals below 15g of carbs, I can keep on target. I am not sure what you mean by doses before and after dinner, I hope you are talking about Novolog. It is preferable to simply bolus and cover your meal and not require a correction. If you are still having spikes in your blood sugar, that would suggest that your not covering the carbs that you eat. Given that you are insulin resistant, a low carb diet would be very helpful. Are you following a low carb diet? If you eat 15g of carbs and can’t properly cover that with a bolus of novolog, that would suggest that your timing and dosing needs modification.
