Is there anyone out there taking Byetta? I am so frustrated & upset. I have been on it almost a month and it seems to be doing nothing for me. I was on lots of Lantus & Humalog and he took me off all of it. My blood sugars are running in the mid to upper 200’s and I’ve not lost any weight. So discourages!

Hi Leah. I was on it but I couldnt take the side effects. Some of these medications dont always work on everyone either. I went on Victoza and it works for me. Have you talked to your Dr about alternatives such as Victoza or Symlin?
If your sugars are that high you need to get back in ASP and get some meds. A change of Dr may be needed here too.
How frustrating! As Pauly mentioned, Symlin has helped a lot of people. It delays stomach emptying so assists with weight loss. You have to be on insuiin to use Symlin.
If you were on a bunch of Lantus and Humalong, I sure wouldn’t think Byetta would help…
You need to be the spokewoman for your health, if it isn’t working tell your DR, or find a new one asap…your heath is important and your Ins is payed by you, so talk, and talk and loud if the Doc won’t listening.
First, I don’t really know you, but I would remind you that the first line of treatment in diabetes (of any kind) is diet and exercise. For a type 2, many of us have found that a low carb diet can be vastly more effective than metformin, Byetta or any medication and studies back that up. So that being said, I was on Byetta and Victoza for over two years. Byetta works by improving your insulin secretion in response to eating. You need to eat Byetta meals (you inject byetta before those meals) with 15-20g of carbs to activate the Byetta and you should see a better postprandial response feel full faster and be less hungry.
My endo had me take the Byetta 1hr before meals. Many people find Byetta works, personally I did not see any long term improvement from my use. There is a separate group on Byetta where there are lots of people and postings on this subject.
why did they take you off the lantus and humalog? you also have to look at the carbs you’re eating as well and see about reducing the # of them. I was on byetta for a while but the results were not worth the side effects for me.
