Celiac Leading to other Allergies

I was just wondering if celiac disease can lead to other allergies. My moms friend’s daughter had an allergy to gluten and know she is allergic to potatos. My mom was worrying that it might lead to something else for me to. I just want to see how many people out there have other allergies as well as gluten and type1 diabetes.

Thanks in Advance,
Dana:)))))

I have Type 1(diagnosed 1961) & Celiac (diagnosed 1971), but no other allergies, though I do fare batter when I keep my dairy intake low, some cheddar cheese & goat’s milk yogurt, but other wise no other allergies & it’s been a while as you can see.

Hi Dana. I got my symptoms of LADA /ype 1 and Celiac Disease at about the same time; also at the time I realized I was intolerant to corn and soy. My guess is that I actually had Celiac all my life, but it just became apparent to me when the Diabetes started. I think the way intolerances and allergies occur in people is different for every individual. Once you know you have Celiac, you just have to stay alert about how you are reacting to any and all foods.

I don’t really consider Celiac an allergy like nuts etc. It is an autoimmune disease, the villi (little hair like things) inside the small intestine are destroyed so the body no longer digests nutrients properly, they don’t know why gluten can begin to cause this. The results can be many & varied besides digestive problems, in my cousin’s granddaughter the child changed personalty when she started solid food. I wasn’t diagnosed until my late 20s, & I don’t think I had always had it. Due to the malabsorbtion I had been anaemic for over a year.

I think celiac & diabetes are more associated with other autoimmune diseases than other allergies.
