CFRD (Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes)

It was suggested to me that I should post more about Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, or CFRD. The basics of CFRD is simple, my body neither makes nor uses insulin. This is as a result of my pancreas being scared from pancreatitis. As a result I am insulin deficient, and I am insulin resistant. This happens to many adults who are diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. There is a possibility that I will only be insulin dependent when I am fighting an infection or when I am on steroids to help my lungs, but that unlikely given the statistics of others in my shoes. I suppose it is worth noting that unless I had been fighting a lung infection I would not have known I had CFRD, as I was not having any symptoms. I would be curious to talk to other people with CFRD and see if their presentations have been similar.

Thanks for the post. I have Type 1, but one of the people I know "in real life" with insulin-dependent diabetes has CFRD.

I recently learned about CFRD while researching diabetes. I didn't know that would happen. That just sounds like double the "fun" if you get what I mean. I'm glad they figured out you have it so you can treat it. From what I understand it's MOSTLY like type 1 just a different cause. I hope you find someone else on here with CFRD. I know someone on a blogging website I go on with it, but I haven't seen anyone on here with it, unfortunately.

Would you mind sharing their blog with me? I would love to find other people who are blogging about life with CF, or CFRD. Thanks!

It feels about like "Double the fun." Luckily for me, I am not one of the CF people who has a hard time keeping weight on, although I do lose muscle quickly like others with CF. Many people with CFRD are doing 10 and 12 injections a day, if they aren't pumping, both Lantin and Novolog, because they have to take in so many calories to stay on target for weight. Here's to hoping that the pump comes along in my future quickly!

I'd actually say check out this tag on tumblr you'll find quite a few people. Like I see them posting in the diabetes tag on there quite a bit but there you should find some of the ones I've seen. The cystic fibrosis tag is probably worth searching too if you wanna read some other people's experiences.
