Changing Reservoir

So, I’m due for a set change tomorrow, and for whatever reason, my blood sugars have been pretty decent this week and my boluses at mealtimes have not been very big. Thus, I still have about 60 units lefts in the reservoir.

Is it ok to keep the reservoir and just plug in a new infusion set? I usually throw it all out and start fresh each time, but it seems like a waste of insulin for this one.

Any thoughts?

I think it is easier to change everything at once, but that’s a lot of insulin to toss out. I tend to keep the infusion set in until the reservoir is empty (generally about 3 1/2 days, so it is pretty close to the 3 day useful life), but have on occasion refilled it or reused it. But, I do recycle the tubing, saving the insulin in the tube.
