Coke Zero?

So I’m still figuring out what I can and can’t eat. I love cokes, so I’m thinking of switching to coke zeros. Does the fake sugar mess with your blood sugar too much? Anybody have any personal experience?

the fake sugar (splenda/equal/etc) does not mess with mine. love diet pepsi more than coke zero. but coke zero tastes better than diet coke to me.

Haha, I’m the opposite… In order, I choose Diet Coke, Coke Zero, then Diet Pepsi. Diet Pepsi used to give me crazy heartburn. That hasn’t been the case for a while now (knock on wood), but drinking it reminds me of heart burn, and I don’t think it tastes as good as Diet Coke anyway.

I don’t really understand Coke Zero though. I don’t like regular Coke, so as a diet beverage connoisseur, I would never want a diet soda that supposedly tastes like the very thing I want to avoid. Hubby says it tastes like… well, I won’t say, but not like regular Coke.

I’ll choose Fresca over them all any day though

Oh, and I drink embarrassing amounts of diet soda - no BG effect at all.

I don’t like the standard Diet Coke but love Coke Zero. And, Cherry Coke Zero. It has a nice “bite” to it. No, it does nothing to my blood sugar.

Kathy-

I didn’t know there was a Cherry Coke Zero!!! I don’t care for Coke to strong but if it has a little flavor…it’s worth giving it a try.

I am w/ Landileigh…Diet Pepsi comes before Diet coke…

My favorite is Diet Dr Pepper, Diet Coke then Diet Pepsi. The sugar in the sodas seem to have no effect on my blood sugar.

Splenda doesn’t mess with my sugar but any other artificial sweetener causes my sugar to go higher than regular sugar does.

Thanks! This is good to know. I was afraid I’d have to give up all cola beverages.

same order for me, Tarra!

The artificial sweetener doesn’t affect blood sugar at all (that I notice), but the caffeine might. Also, after drinking a lot of it, I get that sweet taste in my mouth which is generally indicative of a high blood sugar. Even though my sugar is NOT high, it’s not all that comfortable.

Oh, and on the order of preferences, since we’re at it, diet Coke is #1 for me, with Diet Pepsi as #2 (occasionally I’ll go for the fruitier diet Sprite, Fresca, Orange, etc…). Coke Zero ranks down about #1000 for me!

One more thing – be careful with some of the non-carbonated fountain drinks. There is now a Minute Maid Light Lemonade - which has I think 1 calorie or 1 carb (I forget) per serving, but I’m not quite sure that’s accurate. Either that, or they’re not hooking up the right syrup to the fountain. Also, Sobe makes a “sugar free” grapefruit-punch like drink which I often see at Quizno’s and some other places that serve Pepsi products. I’m not quite sure that is safe either. Haven’t figured out if my sugar rose from the meal or the drink.

When will Guiness get on the bandwagon and offer Stout Zero?

lol, yeah. My doctor said something about no more beer. But, What the heck?! I need some sort of vice.

those sugar free Sobes are soo good! They don’t affect my blood sugar at all.

beer has lowered my blood sugars! Sometimes if I’m high I’ll drink one to bring me down. You don’t need to give it up, just learn how to work it ; )

Also coke zero is good because it doesn’t have aspertain. That has showed to cause brain tumors in rats in less than 2 years. Could mean the same for humans. Aspertain is in all diet sodas. I switched to Diet Rite. It’s good, and healthier than regular diet sodas.

None have effected my blood sugars.

Sugar free cookies have always raised my sugars though, so I’d avoid thoes.

good luck!

Ok let me through a new mix for you.

Use sodas with splenda it’s better for you.
out of what has been said I like diet mountian dew, diet dr pepper, diet coke plus.
But all of these has Aspartame which cause cancer, and diabetes is bad enough.
So I try to stick with Diet rite they have 4 flavors or if there is a walgreens they have their brand of soda which the diet cola is made with splenda.

I also use splenda brown sugar, splenda powder sugar, and splenda sugar when making things.

ahahahaha BRILLIANT!

I hardly ever used to drink soda at all, until I was diagnosed as diabetic, at which point I promptly became addicted to the most sickly sweet, artificial and embarrassing diet soda of all time – Diet Pepsi Jazz Caramel Creme. It’s since been discontinued and I still mourn it daily! It tasted sort of like cotton candy, the taste of burnt sugar … and it totally got me through those first few months, when I was dying for sweetness but afraid to have any of my usual treats.

When it went off the market I switched to regular Diet Pepsi, or sometimes Diet Dr. Pepper, which my brother got me hooked on briefly last summer. I’ve read that the phosphoric acid in cola drinks (any dark soda, I think – check the label) is linked to kidney failure, so I’m looking into that and will probably ween myself off of sodas soon. Hot tea is my favorite thing in winter so I’ll probably go back to that.

I have some of that in my house still, my roommate bought and didn’t like it.
I"m a fan of Polar Diet Orange Dry- I think its a regional New England thing. It has 4 carbs per can/serviing, but I don’t see more than a 5 point jump. After that, I’ll take Sprite Zero, Coke Zero, Sierra mist free.
When I was in the hospital at dx, I was given warm diet ginger ale. For some reason, I’d ask for water and get that. I still occationally drink it, but it has to be cold.

YEAH FRESCA!!! I love it! Many people don’t know that ALL Fresca is diet!!!

Coke Zero & Sprite Zero are all fantastic. They do nothing to my blood sugar.
