First of all, thank you for all the support and help! So, quick update on my type 2 hubby. He has been taken off glimepiride since he was fighting low numbers; between 68 and 110, still taking metformin. Since then, his numbers have been increasing to between 140 and 170. Not sure if this is because we are not as paranoid about what he is eating (we found meals that are low carb and have them on a regular basis)he does monitor his food intake but it is not our first thought! He still runs several times a week but the European Championships are on and god forbid he misses a game!! lol He noticed tingling on his feet which had gone away and now has a blister on one foot but has no idea how he got it. I guess I just need someone to say that this is ok and everything will be fine. Oh, he had his first A1C done last week that was 6.8.
I think he was tested for type. Can't get a hold of him just now since he's at work. He has lost weight though, 6' and was 206 pounds he weight himself on Saturday and he's down to 186. I'm eating the same diet and not lost anything *sigh*
Hi Em: I agree with Shawnmarie, I think it is important to know if he has Type 1 or Type 2. That kind of weight loss is associated with (is a symptom of) uncontrolled Type 1 diabetes. Has he had the full suite of antibody tests? That's GAD, ICA, IA-2, and zinc transporter. If he is positive for any one antibody, it's T1, which requires insulin. Best of luck! Good that you are an advocate for him.
