Continuous Glucose meters

Can anyone shead some light on these machines… I would love not to have to prick my fingers so often… I’m going through testing strips like they’re going out of fashion.

Do you have to be using a pump to be able to use a continuous glucose meter or can you just be a regular injectable insulin user?

I wish that new invention that fit’s in your ear was available to use… I’d even offer to test it if I knew they wanted testers…lol.

I hope someone has some info on these and if they’re any good.

Thanks in advance for your help and interest.

My understanding is that Continuous Glucose Monitors are for people wtih Diabetes. I’ve temparily worn them when I am having doubts about my basal rates and other questions I have.

Also wanting to know what direction your management is going is important. I realize how important it is to manage my Diabetes, so I always want to be on top of the latest technology.

Do you know if we can get these continuous meters on rx or do we have to buy them from the pharmasy Betty? I really am fed up with pricking my fingers all the time… and now I’m on insulin, my blood sugar drops really rapidly… I’m nervous of being out walking somewhere and having a sudden drop in sugar… this happened to me only yesterday… I always carry something to eat with me luckily, but it takes time to bring up the levels again… I nearly fell as I was walking, but just saved myself in time… gave me quite a scare as I didn’t really feel the low coming on until it was there. Had I fallen, it would have been on concrete and I could have done myself some real damage. x

Denise, even more reason to test frequently. I too have hyunawareness (am not always able to feel lows). The difference is I don’t mind the finger pricks because I want to know where my bs is at all times so I test, test, etc. Acquiring a glucose monitor is up to your insurance company if you have insurance. I’m now a senior citizen and am on medicare. Even though I have secondary insurance with medicare they go by the guidelines of medicare. So I’ll have to wait until medicare approves cgms…at one time I considered buying it but changed my mind.

Thanks for your help Betty… I see the doctor soon so I’ll discuss maybe applying for one with her… After we’ve had a discussion about the Statin thing… lol… she still won’t let it rest.
