How do authors get away with naming books, "Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes: The Scientifically Proven System for Reversing Diabetes without Drugs " by Dr. Neal Bernard or "There Is a Cure for Diabetes: The Tree of Life 21+ Day Program" by Dr. Cousens? If diet would make our bodies capable of producing the right amount of insulin, type 1s would have been doing this a long time ago. I keep running into people who say I can cure my type 1 because of these books with there faulty titles. Dr. Neal Bernard even states in the body of his book that there is not a cure for type 1. Dr. Cousens claims to have cured one type 1. I believe the type 1 he cured was misdiagnosed. Have any of you been running into similar conversations and/or situations?
I don't even try and read them. I learned years ago that some ppl want to think that some of the things that are put into books like that don't work. But some ppl really want to belive that some of the things that are in there might just work. PPl are strange huh???
There is a core group of activists at work here, they are tied into PCRM and PETA. Barnard is a former member of the board of PETA. He essentially supported and produced Cousen's movie and book as well. I believe these books and movies were made to advocate for animal rights, not to help people with their health.
I believe in the general principals of both Barnard and Cousens, but I absolutely detest the assumption by non diabetics that type 1 diabetes is curable by diet. I also agree that the "cured" woman must of been mis diagnosed. I have had diabetes for less than a year, and have tried all kinds of diets to reign in and learn about my blood sugar. Even when I was eating vegan and 70% raw, I still absolutely had to take insulin!
I believe that both programs do misguide diabetics as well as the general public. By not differentiating between type 1 and type 2, they are misleading a lot of people.
I just came across another one of these books when I was about to do some Christmas shopping on Amazon. This one is titled, "Reversing Diabetes" by Julian Whitaker.
Yes, it seems like there is a number of them out there. While I don't believe in shooting all possibilities at first glance, the reality though, unfortunately, is that currently there is no known cure for type 1.
