The "NPH-adding" strategy that Laddie suggested makes more sense, to me, because if I know when the NPH peaks, then I could 'aim it' at the DP and decrease my lantus a bit.
They describe Lantus as having 'no peak,' but I can't seem to find a plot of Lantus efficacy over a 24 hour period, when I Google it. I have found those for NPH. I guess I don't understand WHY splitting Lantus would work, but if it works for you, I'll give it a try...just for kicks. Easy to implement. I'll throw on a CGM and see if I get any interesting data.
I usually don't eat breakfast - just coffee. I tried taking a little bolus at midmorning and got a Tofurky from the discount foods store, on the advice of Brian (bsc).
Doing fine, Alex. Thanks for asking. Its possible that any and all of these suggestions will work. I don't know why I didn't think of them. Thanks to everybody! You guys are all amazing in the creative problem solving that you do.
Yeah Mohe, Shadowdragon's diagram is kind of what some people observe in themselves and I think that they report that perhaps the absorption is bit smoother w/ 2 shots vs. 1 shot? If you can find a "peak" in the Lantus action, measure the time from the shot, you can use that info to sort of fine tune your dosing strategy.
I saw that story too and it's pretty exciting news! I'm intrigued that Melton and Ed Damiano seem to have moved to the forefront of their respective areas of research because they are motivated by kids w/ T1.
I take Lantus at bedtime. 35 units but adjust a little more or less depending on my body.I have been told that there are people taking more than double that amount. It depends on what the body needs. I take 1 unit for every 40 in number of Glucose reading and 1 for every 10 g of carbs. That works for me but I know my adjustments were tailored to me. It took a while to get it adjusted to where my levels were good most of the time. I think I still have some spikes in the mornings sometimes.
hmmm, thats no fun. Sounds like me. I am taking a lot of extra correction bolus and large meal bolus. It feels like when my sugars are oscillating so much out of control, its real hard to get them 'back on the road.' Glycogen, eh? Our livers are releasing too much sugar over particular intervals? By tiny dosages, do you meal fraction of a unit? Are you on a pump?
