I’ve been using the G5 for about six months. At first I didn’t care for it but now I like it and only use my phone as the receiver. I do notice I get more ??? sometimes, particulary after showering. What I’ve found that seems to help reconnect the transmitter faster is to press down on it and wiggle it around. Kind of like “waking it up”, might work with the G4 too for dropped signals, try it!
After my daughter soaks in the bathtub or takes a shower, I’ve been known to take a Q-tip and try to “wick” the water away from the contact points between the transmitter and the sensor.
Or I just wait it out if I’m feeling lazy. I’ll have to try Lilli2’s “wiggle and wake up” technique!
Interesting. I had a “compression failure” this morning – slept for a bit on the side with the sensor and work to a false low-alarm, followed by a short period of ???. Will try that next time.
Yes, I’ve occasionally found that works as well. Definitely worth a try.
What didnt you care about it? I love mine but only been two days. Only main gripe is the total lack of flexibility in adding info or editing it in the receiver or the app. I cant add notes when adding insulin to show what kind, etc. Really dumb. Unless I’m just really missing how to do it!
You may find that you want to use something like the mySugr app on your phone where it is very easy to input info with some typing and lots of icons. The G5 info can sync to the app, but it’s more for retrospective viewing because it is mandated by Apple Health to be a 3-hour delay. You can also sync your steps from Apple Health.
yeah but that wont show up on my clarity graph. i use the onetouch app and its great for that also but if its not on the graph kinda useless except for restrospective like you said. I just cant understand why they’d omit such a simple function. Hopefully in an update soon. I still love it though.
I was used to the G4 @Allen3 which had a slimmer transmitter and very reliable receiver, plus I never was able to get my G4 Share receiver to update to the G5 software so I HAD to use my phone only. I think it was just an adjustment to change but I’m fine with it now, prefer having one receiver, my iPhone.
I noticed this “wiggle” fix too. What’s even more interesting is that you don’t need it at all if using the Dexcom receiver and not your smartphone. I gave up on using my smartphone as the ??? and disconnects were getting out of control. Maddening to keep things working at some times. Going back to pure Dexcom receiver has been completely solid and so much better. Though still not quite as good as the old G4, as the distance to the receiver is still noticeably shorter. That and 1/4 the transmitter life, I’m hoping I can get G4 transmitters on my next refill, I still have my G4 receiver.
But, I was here today looking for another issue. I can’t seem to pair a transmitter with the App on my Smartphone now. Everytime I try I get a “server error”. The G5 continues to be frustrating.
Definitely way more frequent a problem with the phone than receiver, which is why I keep both going, though the replacement transmitter I got a couple of months ago has been way better than my original G5 ones were.
@DrBB, glad to hear they are improving, because my original transmitters were very bad. But, the “improvement” I’m waiting for is more life out of them. I’ve had other devices that use the same Bluetooth signal type that the G5 transmitters do, and they all got over a year of life, with similar transmission requirements and similar size. I can’t get over thinking that Dexcom purposefully shortened the life of the transmitter in response to the originals lasting twice as long as expected, and folks use the sensors twice or more as long as they are stated to be used. Dexcom seems to be trying to make up lost income ground rather than continuing to provide exceptional service and products.
I just joined the ??? club yesterday. One signal loss for a few hours, then I got re-connected and then the questionmarks last night, killing my APS setup. I got reconnected by re-initiating the sensor but it worked only for 1½ hrs and now I’m on ??? for three hours again. Does it mean that the transmitter should be replaced? Should I chase Dexcom?
Probably a bad sensor, put in a new one, call Dexcom and they will most likely replace it. I rarely get the ??? on my iPhone and when I do it never lasts more than ten minutes.
