Dexcom G5 and Applewatch Series

Finally getting the G5, and I want to get an applewatch. Couple questions, do people find Series 2 better than Series 1? I really careless about the watch except my BS’. Also, can you have the watch permanently display your numbers.

Thanks, Deanna

Series 1 is cheaper. The only way you can get permanently displayed numbers is with Android (unless something has changed).

Series 2 is waterproof, that alone was enough to justify the series 2 for us. Note: my 14 year old wears the watch, and isn’t careful with watches.

Using the watch complication(s) Dexcom and/or Watchsugar you can get the number displayed on almost every face. Just note that Watchsugar can be a bit delayed if your phone loses connection with your dexcom.

Thanks, I read about the waterproofing, and get it for a kid. I am more concerned with speed of updating between the two as the processor is faster w the 2, but don’t know if this makes a differences for this application. Of course the pricing is what I am looking at if there is no difference in processing data.

I think you will be fine with either then. I would say that the processing speed wasn’t an issue on the Series 1 watch we trialed for a weekend before settling on the 2 due to durability concerns.

Dexcom now has a complication that will continuously display numbers on the home screen.

During my research on the two in December, I couldn’t find any reason that the series 1 would be any better than the series 2 for Dexcom data. Since figuring out the proper Dexcom watchfaces to use, I haven’t had any issues with the series 1 continuously displaying numbers.

Are you saying that the watch is always lid up? No need to wiggle the arm? If so, how long does the battery last in this mode?

Excellent!

When you lift/tilt your arm to look at the watch it lights up. The battery life is probably my one complaint about it…lasts about 24 hours. I suppose that’s not a terrible battery life considering the constant Bluetoothing, bright screen, and regular HR monitoring, though.

I’m also very interested in the G5 and Apple Watch (specifically the 2, as it apparently has an app that can track swimming). Can the Apple Watch track continuous heart rate, sleep, steps, and calories like the Fitbit can (I currently use a Fitbit and if I got an Apple Watch I would only want to wear the one device).

Series 2 - I get 2 days of battery life easily. The old one I had (series 1) gave me one day. It’s never a good idea to spend money on old technology.

Yes, it tracks all that. I have my on during the night as well so it wakes me up with vibrations instead of the “fire alarm” in case the sugar goes up or down.

Apple Watch Series 1. Here is a screenshot I just took. All you have to do is raise your wrist and your number is right there. Very convenient.

I’d go with Series 2 if you are ok spending the extra money, otherwise Series 1 will be fine for what you want to use it for.

My wife has the apple watch and I have an android. My watch face is ALWAYS on and lasts 1 full day with constant use. I’ve noticed that my wife tends to look at my watch instead of her own because she has to raise arm, wait for the numbers to load, then numbers are displayed. One thing to note is that we are parents of T1 meaning that our devices are “following”. The recent complication update does not work for us.

Which android watch are you using?
