Announcement: Upgrade to Dexcom G7 or G7 15 Day from G6 | Dexcom | Dexcom
Here’s the FUD thread. It has maybe drifted somewhat off course, or maybe become somewhat diffuse, but there’s lots of valuable information there for those G6 users who may now be forced to choose a new CGM:
Is 15 day improved at all? Anyone tried it with Omnipod 5?
The obvious improvement is that the G7 now runs for 15 days. It isn’t unreasonable to assume that it is just a “10-day” G7 with a different sticker and a little hack in the firmware so that it doesn’t lob off until 15.5 days (372 hours) have gone.
So I’m guessing, “No, there is no improvement.” but, “Yes, it lasts for 15 days.” G7 users who were fine up to 10 days, as I am, might choose to swap and maybe get a couple more days, or even 5. If the G7 lasts for 15 days then, for me, it is actually 55.5% better because I get 14 days usage, not 9.
It’s one of those suck-it-and-see-if-it-sucks moments.
I thought I heard @CJ114 say he tried the 15 day G7.
Insulet says they just work with the Omnipod 5. I haven’t been paying attention to pumps long enough to know better, should they not be trusted?
Not me - Must be some confusion. I am aware the G7 is available for a couple of pumps, but I am MDI on a digital pen and have several G7 in stock, all 10-day units. For those that can convert, they will need a new prescription for the 15-day and my understanding in talks with Dexcom, all left over 10-day sensors will still be able to be used. That is a good thing as it will allow for a build up supply of the 15 day sensor, when available.
Like choose your poison……
Not really; we don’t know which is more poisonous, the G710 or the G715. Eventually, after enough of us choose one poison or the other we will know. Some of us have to be the lab rats and then we talk to each other and learn.
I think you have just convinced me to see if I can swap to the G715. I can certainly get a new prescription when I see my endo in January, the question, one that is separately important to me, is whether I can swap with the Medicare rules.
Drip supports the 15 day g7?

That’s the risk. It’s not clear ATM if Dexcom changed the protocols with the G7 to cut out FOSS and other non-licensed software. This is clearly possible.
Pretty much it requires someone to try it. Kinda Madame Curie moment.
EDIT: I just checked again (these things do change hour-by-hour, that’s the way FOSS works) and, despite the artificial google idiot saying the xDrip+ does support the 15-day version none of the links the incumbent moron quotes say that; the subgenius quotes Navid and Dexcom and that is all.
