Dexcom transmitter life

Just another reason I quit message boards like this. Facts and opinions tend towards the lowest common denominator. Ciao.

Someone had posted a thread on this subject, initially the discussion was about the 7+, and then evolved into the G4... here's the link.

I have used Medtronic and Dexcom both and hands down Dexcom is better. Medtronic's readings were so unreliable it wasn't even funny.

hi Joe,

so be more than happy about 11 month's ..... my Dexcom G4 transmitter was dead before!!! the 6 months guaranty and so I got a new one for free.

I was thinking about buying the Dexcom. Its a great device I hear, but when I found out about the non-replaceable, non-changeable, battery that was only covered for 6 months, I started looking at the Medtronic product. Even though it doesn't compare in features or comfort.

This is an achillies heel for Animas. They really should do something about it.

Have you thought about tearing it apart and seeing what type of battery it is? Maybe there's a way to 'hack' this and replace the battery. It's worthless now, so why not try?

Also, someone should ask Animas how a bluetooth transmitter costs $700. I think the part itself cost wise is probably worth about $20 or so...Did they think they'd make a lot of money by designing it this way? Seems to me, they've lost thousands of dollars from me alone as I wanted to get his device, and the pump to go along with it next year when my pump funding is renewed.

Well, if that's in response to my comments above, good riddance.

they could simply mass produce and lower the costs I'm sure it is possible with volume to produce the receiver and transmitter for about $30 a pop
If only this could be the case.

The problem is, to achieve these economies of scale you've got to produce these by the millions. Dexcom is producing them by the tens of thousands.

Hence the price. No one's getting rich here. We're truly paying what it costs to develop such incredible technology for a niche market.

hi gizmo3141

I just was reading your post a little bit late …
BUT… I use the DEXCOM G4 … since august 2013 AND the transmitter is declared from Dexcom for 6 months… but it works until 12 months! and will give you any time an info about battery is ok ore not.

Another very important reason for the Dexcom System is … it is the worldwide only manufacturer whose sensor is declared for 7 days, all other provide 5 or 6 days, that makes much many savings in a year!
And also the sensors are well doing it’s function for about 3 or 4 weeks, but check it by finger-blood-test for your own security…
