I am now seriously considering a CGM, and have heard great things about the Dexcom. I did 2 trials with the medtronic guardian, but I hated it because it's so inaccurate, running 10 minutes behind what a fingerstick tells you. the sensor said I was 70, when I had already corrected that low. Anyway, anything I should know about the dexcom before I try it out?
As far as i know, running 10 mins behind isnt medtronics problem, its just that the glucose level in the fluid where you put the sensor is somehow a bit behind. so i would expect the same with the dexcom (although i have never used a dexcom). thats why you still test on the finger.
but it is so, that the medtronic has a big accuracy problem right now, and i have heard many doctors and cgm users say that the dexcom is far more accurate than the medtronic sensor.
wishing you luck!
i just started the dex g4 several months ago and love it. it too runs 5-10 min behind a fingerstick, you cant expect perfection, but if my bgs are level its generally within 5-10mgdl. it does get thrown a bit if your bgs fluctuate alot, but it is still good for seeing trends and correcting before you get too low or high. and after being on it for several months, i can almost always predict if its above or below the fingerstick and by about how much.
I didnt know at first if i would want something else attached to me besides the pod, but after being on it for a while, i wouldnt exchange it for anything(besides my pump)
