Diabetes management costs to improve

We all know just how difficult it is to manage a chronic disease like diabetes without the aid of medical insurance. while it is most certainly not a death sentence, it requires a lot of hard work and sacrificing which shouldn’t be the case.

All we ask is for it to be just a little bit easier and we will handle the rest but Insurance companies have made it increasingly difficult for that to happen so the politicians have had to step in and DO in the name of health care reform…

Perhaps I have been fortunate enough to have good insurance but I have always seen my insurance as more of an advocate than some red tape monster keeping me from health care. they have advocated for me when a hospital refused to bill be correctly and turned me over to collection, they have helped me find heath care when I needed it most. Sure there have been times when I was aggravated when they would not cover a mammogram for me because I was 28 and male (the lump turned out the be a lymph node when I had an ultrasound which insurance paid for). I am afraid we are/ have going to over regulate the insurance industry till they cannot provide any service. Lets apply simple contract law to hold insurance companies accountable for what they promise and what we ultimately pay for. The more we regulate an industry the more red tape is added. There are lots of good doctors, devices, medicine out there… we just need better access of all. And the last time I checked red tape and regulations never helped make getting anything done easier.

Thanks for the post Poor Man! It is so profit driven with huge salaries in Insurance and Drug makers. Its funny how the more red tape there is the sicker we all get and we all end up paying. I have never liked the employer being involved in health insurance and I want portability in what I can choose. When they advertise that they can do lasik surgery in the paper for 500 bucks dont tell me that completion doesn’t work. The insurance companies dont want competition so the continue to court employers for these high cost plans.

I have been on the other end of the spectrum, a few times I have been without Insurance and I happen to be 31 years old and keep myself relatively healthy, when I could afford individual coverage, I couldn’t get it, here on Ohio, insurance companies will quadruple your coverage costs with the pre-existing condition bruhaha and that is not fair at all. I think what they should do is deregulate the whole thing so everyone can get it and because of the wait until you get sick to get insurance aspect just set penalties wait isn’t that what they are trying to do. go figure

The current system is flawed we all agree on that but what is the solution to the problem, the Insurance industry concerned with the bottom line will obviously not regulate itself. Making health care FREE for everyone like the Dutch will probably not work either as taxing other things to cover for it does not make practical sense. To me competition will weed out the week, why can they just not make health care equally available to everyone that way companies will have to compete for customers with no other strings attached.
