Well I guess I’m officially a diabetic now. Don’t know what to think except that I’m almost relieved to have a diagnosis after over a year of health issues. Starting with a urinary tract infection, up to looking for bladder cancer. Having a CT for hmm can’t remember why, but finding a tumor on my adrenal gland.
I’ve always had occasional bouts of hypoglycemia, but for maybe the last year or so they have been every day. I didn’t (and still don’t really) know when I was having high blood sugar. I went online here and other diabetes sites and the one symptom I couldn’t write off to meds, or stress or work or anything else, is blurry vision. I’ve been getting that lately. More than the allergic dry eye blurriness.
So…My glucose was 131. And the A1C was 5.9, I will have to learn all the correct terminology. Up to six months ago with my regular medication renewal bloodtests, my glucose was fine. Oddly this time not just the glucose, but also my thyroid has dropped and had to up my dose on that.
My doctor thinks I am insulin resistant? Because, just my luck, the only symptom I would have been happy to get is the weight loss. LOL But ohh no I’ve been steadily gaining weight for about the last nine months to a year. Anyway she says if it’s not working as it’s supposed to it just lays down fat. Oh lucky me…go figure.
I go next Tuesday to the wellness center and get a meter, and some education. Thank goodness. I feel like I’m on a roller coaster daily now. Up, down, up, down…I’m exhausted by the end of the day. We are going to do a log for three weeks and decide if I need medication or just diet and exercise.
Then she tells me to make an appointment with the podiatrist and the eye doctor and let them know I’m a new diabetic. Bleg I really want to go see more doctors.
Well I hope that Tu Diabetes and this blog will help me get honest and get on track. My sister told me my mom was diabetic but didn’t need to watch her diet, she just took a pill. I don’t know, I wasn’t there, but she died of a stroke. I have to wonder if she might have done better with diet and exercise.
