Do you ever skip the Dexcom sensor warmup period?

I never fully understood the “reconnect old” option, but what you’re describing seems about right (as I mentioned, it’s been a few months since I used the MedT CGM). I guess what always bugged me is that I would re-start a sensor, and a few minutes later get nagged for a calibration. This way, at least, let me do it all in one step.

Yes, I agree and thank you for this tip for that reason if nothing else.

It looks like I’ll be doing a re-start about 5-6 hours from now so I’ll get a chance to try this & see if anything different happens during a re-start. Be still, my beating heart!

I read on Facebook about people doing this, changing the sensor but not saying it is a new sensor. They call it something like hot change. I wasn’t sure why one would do this because the clock with still stop the new sensor when that 7 days came up. I think maybe they were in the middle of activities and couldn’t have a two hour blank period.

I have never done the hot sensor swap. I generally find that it takes 4-9 hours sometimes for my Dexcom G4 to settle down after a change. However, if I am going to run the same sensor restart. I keep an extra receiver with the same transmitter code in it. So when I get the you have 6 hours alert. I start the other receiver up and start a warm-up. Then I can use that receiver while I restart my main receiver.

This makes it so I am only without sensor data when I actually change my sensor site.

ok, fine, i do skip, it sometimes,.

You absolutely do not need to start a new session when you change a sensor. We change sensors when there are ??? or numbers aren’t matching up - seems to happen around 10 days for Caleb. I often do not restart bc I don’t want to wait the 2 hours in the dark at that particular time. However, a number will not show up right away - it might take 30 to 60 minutes and sometimes we see ??? in that warmup period.

something new everyday, gues i can skip the warmup,.
better then waiting,.

On the G5, why does the “Do two tests” function NOT have a waiting period between the two tests? I think the G5 receiver DOES have us wait between the two tests. Confusing. . .

I don’t recall seeing anything requiring a wait between the two tests…

I just started on the G5 a few days ago and I saw no mention of calibration waiting periods.

You started on the G5 Terry?, I’ll be interested to see what you think. I’m getting used to it, still can’t get my receiver to update though so only using my phone. Did you get your receiver to update?

I’m using xdrip alpha with the g5. I don’t use the receiver because it drops signal for long periods. The xdrip does not force a warm-up period. I’ve been using the same sensor for 13 days and have not had to do a warm-up or change the sensor. This is my first few weeks with xdrip though so I’m still learning. There are menu items to start and stop sensor which I’ve not tried yet. At least it appears the transmitter does not force a warm-up period.

Yes, I’m on day five of the G5. My G4 transmitter finally gave me the low battery notice. My receiver is updating, so is the iPhone and Apple Watch. I did have to spend some time on the phone with the Dexcom technical help line. I can’t remember specifically what got fixed but it all works now. I was impressed that Dexcom did not take the stance that they would not help if it’s a setting on the iPhone that needs to be changed.

I’m just using my iPhone, my receiver won’t update to the G5 software

Ed - I do likewise. I use my newer receiver whenever I start a sensor, calibrate my older receiver a few hours before the ‘official’ 7 day expiration and then only use my old receiver until I must start a new sensor.
