I was going around the whole day fine and dandy, writing my anthro paper and what not… just out of curiosity i’d thought i’d check my sugar… felt absolutely fine too! anyway i checked it twice and it was 43! ugh i did not feel low at all its crazy!.. and kind of scary because just think if I didn’t even bother to check it… anyone else have this kind of thing going on? or any tips on how i can spot a low more often? … it’s strange that i will feel high too when my sugars hit 156! perhaps i’m just having too many lows lately
Your body is getting used to you being at lower numbers. That is why you aren’t feeling the lows as much and why you feel the highs so much sooner than you did before. Our body does an amazing job of adjusting to what it thinks is normal even if we don’t know or like it I am like you, I don’t feel my lows until I am low and i will feel high at 150. Normal for me is 80-110.
I am feeling less aware of lows (I’m type 2 but on insulin). I was wondering about it and came across this LINK.
Perhaps you have hypoglycemia unawareness.I have been a type 1 for 23 1/2years and have been on the pump for 1 year.I have it too and have been working on keeping my blood sugar in a more acceptable range. On injections I was having alot of hypos and have even been found a few times by family members when I was in a insulin shock coma.In order to regain the feeling of lows you should keep your numbers up a little higher even if you don’t like it.I hated to be in the 126 - 162 range before.I have slowly gotten used to it and feel alot better.I’m not having any hypos. When hypos occur your body creates stress hormones and will cause your blood sugar to rise several hours later. When you stop the hypos you don’t have the spikes in blood sugar.Everytime a low occurs you deplete the reserves of epinephrine.Women have an even smaller reserve than men.Have you thought about going on the pump?In Ontario the government will pay for a pump and supplies. It is the best thing they have ever done.
I am exactly like that the past few months, Jill!!
And I wonder if it is hypo-unawareness, because…I’m always able to function completely normal! What’s worse is I have the most difficult time making myself correct lows like that!
And I’m also like you when I hit the 150s. Ever since I got tighter control (well, minus the hypos…lol), my 150s now feel like 250s used to feel like. XD
