Went to the doctor today and gave me thumbs up on my a1c it was 5.4...I am pleased but not so pleased what diabetes has done to me it has strucken me with Ischemic optic neuropathy thats is a disease that makes you go blind so I have to have lazer surgery if anyone has had that surgery just shoot me a line about it would love to hear all about it....
beautiful A1c!!!
i’m so sorry you are going through eyestuff. i wish you the best.
I have diabetic retinopathy. I’ve had a vitrectomy (surgical procedure) done on one eye. I also had about 15 laser treatments done to each eye over the course of several years.
However…I don’t know if this is at all like the laser treatment you’d be facing. There are many different kinds of surgeries that can be performed with lasers.
Congrat on a nice A1C!
I have had laser surgery for my eyes but it was before dx and for my astigmatism and not for eye damage/retinopathy.
I don’t know what sort you will need - it might be different than what I had. This was about 8 years ago and my vision has stayed at a nice 20/25. At that time, there two types of laser surgery to fix vision problems. They do the laser to the cornea without opening the thin tissue that covers the cornea and the one where they do. According to my doctor (I went to one of the best in the country), the one were they fold the tissue back and directly laser the cornea is better and has less complications.
It is scarey to have anything done ot your eyes and of course I was so nervous but after it was done (all coordinates were programmed into a computer I just had to keep my eyes still) it was like having a new pair of eyes! Eyes were dry after (of course) and you have to keep them rested after for many hours after and not rub them and use a lot of aritifical tears - but once the folded tissue reheals itself and it smoothed properly back on - you are good to go and just go for followup. I actually didn’t go back to the eye doctor because I didn’t need too for a whole 8 years until my DX this year and than I went for the D eye exam and everything was fine.
This surgery is different than you had…this won’t correct my vision it will just stabalize the eyes and hope it works…There is no cure for this…I also have cataracts in both eyes and very little blood circulation in both eyes…I just hope that I don’t go blind
Thanks so much for the kind words do appreciate them…Im just scared of going blind…I know can’t change the way things are Im just taking good care of myself…Have a good one…Good nite
Thanks so much
Did thiese surgeries correct your vision?
Oh yeah thanks for the hug sending one back at you
Congrats on the A1c! Will they remove the cataracts? I had laser for retinopathy and that helped. With the cataracts, I was 20/400 in my good eye and limited to hand motions in my bad eye. My doctor didn’t offer much hope for visioin improving much after the cataract surgery but I am now 204/40 in both eyes - big difference! I was terrified going into the cataract surgery (as well as the lasers) but it really was easy.
I don’t know what my numbers are with my vision but I know my right eye is getting really bad can’t see much out of it…They probably will remove the cataracts…I hope mine does as well as yours have done…
Thanks for the encouraging words
Thanks Well my blood sugar wasn’t always in control…I just recently got it under control with the pump it has been the best thing I could have done for myself…Yes you still have to watch it when its good…
WOW! Congrats on the a1c… the lowest I’ve been able to get was a 6.5… though i’ve slipped up and got lazy and sick so now it’s 8.8, but I’m working on getting it back down…
Sorry to hear about your eyes… I hope it all turns out well!
Thanks so much nice to know that you care
You will get there just takes staying on top of it and checking the blood sugars regularly…Thanks for caring about my eyes…have a nice day
Darlene, there is a Tumember, Tanya ( Baby Tee) who has Ischemic Optic Nueoropathy. She posted a discussion about it on the Group Diabetics with eye disease and was looking for others with the same disorder. No one replied. You may want to contact her. She is the only one I know of on the site who has mentioned it… but there may be more.
God’s Blessings to you… You are in my prayers for peace and healing.
Brunetta
Thanks for the prayers and blessings…I will look her up
