Eating out!

Hello all,

I am new to this place and i was wondering where do you folks eat out and what do you order. I tend to eat out a lot, so i am trying to find good places to eat. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner!

Sup Dino!

I like to eat out at Zaxby’s. I also eat out at Ryan’s and Golden Corral. I can pick the healthy items that will not affect my sugars so much. Plus Ryans and Golden corral does Breakfast lunch and dinner.

I can’t afford to eat out often. But, when I have to, I try to go somewhere where they have a carb chart, like Culvers.

I don’t eat out often but if I do it’s either a salad bar type restaurant, a McDouble minus half the bun and half a small fries, or the Chinese buffet and I get beef & veggies done up on the grill.

Depends on your goals and what you’re trying to accomplish. Are you low carb?

I am very low carb and I don’t eat out too often because I don’t like trusting my health to others. But when I do, I go low carb all the way. Here in Orlando, they have a chain called Miller’s Alehouse - they always have great seafood dishes that are low carb. Any place like Denny’s, IHOP, Marie Callendars, etc. will do for breakfast - bring on the eggs, bacon, sausage - hold the toast, pancakes, and potatoes. For lunch, I’ll take any kind of grilled chicken salad I can get my hands on. Chinese buffet - or any buffet - is good - or at least, as good as the choices you make.

Hope that helps - and welcome to, IMHO, the best community for diabetics I’ve been able to find!!

I am trying to go super duper low carb! Pretty much trying to cut it out of my diet for awhile.

Glad to hear it - I really believe that’s the best way to go. I do somewhere between 45 - 60 a day - no more. When I started, I went for about a week with none - hunger went totally away.

Here’s a good reference - http://www.phlaunt.com/lowcarb/

I try to stick to chicken/ fish/ salads once in awhile a hamburger craving. But try low carbs when out. If its pats out thats always tricky try to eat a cup or only half. And one or two bread. Buffets try to stay away but once in awhile just eye ball fist fulls of what i like and hope for no cbs later on. Or test ahour after if raiseing bolus. But try to look at carbs in calorie king book. Well HAPPY CARB COUNTING

If you look on the internet, most restaurants have their nutritional data there. Every time I go out to eat, I look up the nutritional data for that restaurant, and highlight the food items that I can order. Sometimes you’ll be surprised. Yesterday I ate at Steak & Shake. When I looked up their nutritional data, a double cheeseburger (minus the bun) actually had less calories and carbs than the grilled chicken salad!
