Hey everyone, for the longest time I have never wanted to wear a medical alert bracelet because they are… well, ugly. I have seen a few pictures of some customizable ones but people are vague when responding to where they got theirs from.
Frankly, I bought a tag cheap at the drug store for a couple bucks and went to the local bead shop and the girls helped me make bracelets to hook on that make them pretty to wear. I have two - a pearl clip on band and a fancy one with colors. I also have a necklace that is plain Jane I wear during the school year when I teach (I don’t like wearing jewelry when I’m working). The girls at the bead shop were awesome and helped me make them for about $10.00 each. The nice thing was they also helped me pick big clasps I could handle with my neuropathy limitations.
There are ads in the back of my diabetic magazine for ones through the mail. I also went online and found some sites but decided to go local - I could be sure they fit and the big clasps were a big thing for me.
Just do a search for medic alert jewelry that’s your best bet to find the fancy, beaded ones. There are quite a few available. I just added a round Medic alert tag to a silver bracelet I was already wearing. My last one was just ordered through a local jeweler , it was a very delicate silver chain with the oblong flat area with a tiny emblem in one corner. Jewelry stores can order all kinds of chain/emblem combination’s so you can create your own.
Check out Resources > Discounts here on TuD, there are some custom medic alert bracelet/necklace makers listed there, with discounts no less!
I have found several handmade cute ones on Ebay myself. I have several different types…different colors etc.
i’ve gotten a few from here…they have men’s, women’s, & kids. necklaces, bracelets, temp tattoos, and even watches! it’s a great site and a great story behind it (: they’re very nice and hold up, too!
Nothing super fancy, but they have a few items a little more stylish and offer in 10K gold and sterling silver…

Beyond that, you can away contact a local jeweler who should be able to custom craft something to your liking.

This is the one I wear http://www.medicalidstore.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=283
Looks like a bangle bracelet. It’s squared so comfortable. Not expensive.
