Hi all, I'm really stressing about expenses right now, our apidra discount card just went from 23 a vial to 50 a vial at walmart. The card will work through end of the year. What's the newest faster insulin that is close to being approved? Anyone know?
Anything faster than apidra yet?
we hope to defect to something new that we can get a gift card for so we can save on insulin.
Do you have insurance, Natalie? If so, then Apidra has a "no co-pay offer" for all of 2013. There is no faster insulin. Whether something else is being developed, I don't know. But FDA approvals are notoriously slow.
no I just wrote a whiny post about our being denied coverage for diabetes and that the pcip plan has run out of funding for new applicants. technically it's illegal now, so I may just call up humana again and if they deny, sue the crap out of them... I need a good lawyer.
Actually, getting a vial of Aprida for $50 is about the best you could get with a walk-up rate anywhere. The competitors to Apridra (Humalog and Novolog) have some discount freebees for new users, but those I believe those only apply to pens. And most of the discount offers are "co-pay" offers, so they only apply when you have insurance. Sanofi, the maker of Apridra does have a patient assistance program and you can contact them, but many people are in need who are without insurance and are at poverty levels.
In the end, if things get really difficult, you can use Regular insulin which is $24/vial at Walmart. It is not as fast as the modern insulin, but it will work.
