Fasting blood sugars

Woke up this morning to a 268 blood sugar. I am doing every thing regarding eating right. Last night I had an egg omelet and 1 pc of bread, 13 carbs. Not sure why it is still not going down in the am. I am taking 28 units of Levemir and 1 Janumet tab. I truly believe that I am not taking enough insulin to cover my overnight blood sugars. I will once again ask my doc to refer me to an endo. I will not wait another 3 months for my A1c while I have these highs. I also notice that my Levemir stops working mid afternoon. I take it early in the morning around 5am..

I agree that 268 is not a number I'd be comfortable with in the AM or the rest of the day.

It may be useful to consider adjusting the timing or manner of taking Levemir. I've never taken it but I've read that some people taking Lantus/ Levemir split their doses to get smoother coverage, as it doesn't always quite work for 24 hours.

Adding short-term insulin would also make it easier to manage the 268 specifically and food in general.

A third possibility that occurs to me is that perhaps the T2 is T1? There's quite a few people here (Manny, Melitta, Zoe immediately popping into my head but there's a bunch...) who were DX'ed as T2 who, after investigation, have been found to have had T1 all along but the doctor failed to consider that possibility b/c they weren't kids. There are tests they can do (hopefully someone will come along, I have been T1 all along and can't ever remember this, I will definitely write it down when the answer appears here...) that will determine more conclusively whether this may be the case for you.

I totally agree that seeing an endo who will be better versed in figuring out the answers to these kinds of questions to manage things more smoothly. It sounds like you are thinking the right thing about the data and I hope that your doc(s) will be responsive and help you get it figured out!

Split the Levemir so it is 2 times a day, so it is more consistent. Get to an endo. Get tested for T1 (LADA). Is the Janumet ER, and are you also having lows? When do you take the Janumet?

This morning high thing is what I call Darn Phenomenon (DP is actually "dawn". Usually it is caused by you body clearing out circulating insulin (which is normally immediately replaced) and then as you prepare to wake your body sends out signals that cause a release of blood sugar for energy. But we have diabetes and things go awry. Usually getting your overnight basal set properly helps. I actually split my Levemir and take most of it at night as a defense against DP.

And I agree with Acid, it is possible you are T1 and you are just leaving your honeymoon and need more insulin.

Thank you all for your replies. Guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. It was high again this am. When I was on chat there were people who said to just split the dose, as I read here as well. I think that is an excellent idea. But I do want to wait for the doc's ok, or whenever I see the endo, what he/she thinks. The warning on the Levemir says do not increase without a doctors supervision. So I will adhere to the warning.

splitting it doesn't have to increase it- you just split the dose: I take 8 at night & 3 in the morning. increasing by 1 unit to see what happens cant hurt either. sounds like you need bolus insulin also.
