Favorite Pump Sites

What is your favorite pump site? Always looking for new ideas and creative ways to wear it, feeling more comfortable. :slight_smile:

I've always mostly used my abdomen however after 5 3/4 years of pumping, I am moderately concerned about burning those sites out so I've been experimenting with my back/ love handle area (despite constant war on love handles, of course...) and also on my thighs, which requires longer tubes, 35" instead of 23". They have both worked pretty well and open up a lot more real estate for "development"

Oh yeah, I’ve heard the back is a fav for lots of people! I rotate mostly around the abdomen and hips. The furthest I’ve gone is above the buttocks toward the back area. Thinking about getting creative and trying the backs of the arms and somehow pulling the tubing through a long sleeve shirt or sweater. Gotta love winter weather for this reason!

Never tried the thighs though, just can’t get it to stick! Walking, working out…I just find the site doesn’t last as long for me.

Awesome. Such a pain for me to use anything longer than a 23". I admire anyone who can sport the longest tubing and wear it well! Lol.

I am T1D for 41+ years and have been pumping for over 11 years. I also rotate primarily around the abdomen, but my favorite and most frequently used areas are my love handles. I never thought that I would find a use for the handles that I tried for years to shrink. I have never experienced any absorption problems with abdominal sites.

Bill, I know! Who would have thought we’d find “good use” for handles! :slight_smile: Do you use any extra tape in that area?

What about extra tape for tricky spots? I’ve only ever used extra tape for the Cgm, never with the pump though.

Jen, I've never used any extra tape with my Medtronic Quick-sets, love handles or any other locations. Even after 3 days of use with several sweaty workout sessions, the infusion sets still stick tight to me.

Same here. I’ve seen some people use extra tape for the Quick Sets. Never could figure out why, as it usually sticks like glue. Unless I’ve recently applied lotion to the area. Then forget it! Well thanks for the feedback Bill!

hello
I have tried arms, has not worked for me. i although i wore the pump in my bra, it was such a mess with the tube and everything. but the pod is great on the arm, you barely feel it!
i mostly use my abdomen, thank god i have no big problems after 8 yrs of almost only using that. i am pretty skinny, so thats the only place that really works for me. sometimes i use my lower back area, however that can be pretty uncomfortable with the pants there, and so on...

Exactly! I’ve demo’ed the new pod and was actually quite impressed. It was so comfortable and easy to wear. The tubing is what gets me with Medtronic. But the technology, only thing that keeps me using a pump with tubing. ((Sigh))

Off topic, but how is the customer service using Omnipod? Medtronic is amazing, and that’s what also keeps me using them.

I’ve used the bra, and I really like that. You’re right though. But then you have to run the tubing all the way up. Grrr… :wink:

You can try skintac as that has worked for me in certain cases or there is another product called hydrofilm that works well. I never use these products unless I get in a bind and need to extend the life of an infusion set for some reason. They work really well and can even be used together. My favorite sites are on my legs because when I work out the spandex helps to keep the site in.

DO to the fact that I was blessed/cursed with almost no body fat, I am very limited on where I can place my site. Over the years of injecting with a syringe I grew these super awesome scar tissue lumps on my stomach. Thanks to these I can use a site there, but I have to be careful not to insert into the scar tissue or my abs. Generally I switch between my thighs. For some reason I have a bit of extra padding on my thighs. even with the shortest cannula I usually end up hitting muscle everywhere I try to find a new spot.

I have also been pumping a while (10 + years) and have noticed that my normal pattern--infusion set on the stomach and sensor on the abdomen--the sites were getting stale. Love handles (OH, and I have them in abundance!) caused weak signal problems when sleeping.

I have found arms to be a real wonder for me. I have been able to go 45 days without a sensor in my abdomen, using the stomach for the sensor. I am now FREE on a device in my abdomen today for the first time I can remember while pumping. I tried the 43" which is too long for any use--I think it just causes you to rip out the infusions set on a doorknob! The 32" is perfect for the arm.

For the ladies--I run it under the side of my bra, and then into my pocket. The tension helps keep it in check. Just be careful removing a tee shirt--anything tight--over your head.

I find these new sites, plus the rotation make a difference, because they allow areas to heal.

Thanks so much Spock! That’s so helpful. Will definitely consider all that you mentioned!

That makes sense! I’ve never heard of hydrofilm, but have heard of the skintac.

Lol…awww, that sucks! Yeah, that’s my concern too. I have no scar tissue…yet. But what do I do once I get to that point? Kinda worried about that. Hopefully I keep finding new ways to attach the pump, but man…running outta choices! Gotta suck it up and use the legs and arms I guess. :slight_smile:

I started on the back of my arms, then my abdomen and now my favorite is my thighs - I get the best absorbsion there!

I move my sites around quite a bit, but prefer the stomach. My rotation routine (sorry for the repeat) always starts on the left side then goes to the right:

Left stomach -> Right stomach
Left stomach -> Right stomach (in a significantly higher or lower position)
Left love handle -> Right love handle (as far to the back as I can reach)
Left buttocks -> Right buttocks

If I can get 3 days from each set, then I can go 21 days before I return to the same general area. Generally, that is enough time to recover.

Maybe once or twice a year I will place a set on my thigh, but I don't have much fat there, so I find it an uncomfortable place to wear one.

My scar tissue lumps were from 9 years of continual injections into my belly. All of my bolus injections were here because it was the "easy" way so no one noticed me injecting at school.
