I’ve been type 1 for 6 months an this is the first time this has happened.
I was at work in the break area and I was going to check my bg. I pricked my finger tip and then I squeezed it to get a droplet to come out. Blood squirted out into the air! It landed all over the open package of cookies on the counter and I had to throw them out. This has never ever happened to me before! Has anyone else ever squirted finger blood on accident??
LOL, my daughter has. Once she pricked her finger and was unable to get any blood to come out so she pricked the same finger again. This time when she squeezed the finger blood squirted out of both her first and second hole and went all over my face, she thought that was funny.
WAAAAAY too many times!!!! U haven't had it longer enough to totally upset other's with ur blood yet. HA! I just thought of something that happened to me many years ago right after the finger pricking & AIDS came into being..........This one guy swore up & down that I was testing my blood just to spread AIDS. You have to remember this was like 20 years ago or longer. Now I laugh about it but back then it made me sooooo mad.
The only time i had it happen was when a nurse pricked my finger for a different blood test (i forget what it was, but it wasn't bloodsugar) I offered to prick it myself... but she insisted. I swear she stabbed half way through my finger. when she squeezed it, blood hit her in the face and went all down her shirt. After that, i prick my own finger at doctors offices lol
I always think its sort of spectacular when it does that. I woudl probably have eaten the cookies too. I always lick the blood off. Dr. Bernstein says it's ok...
bahaha!! I've had this happen a couple of times the 1st time I just stood there amazed I could not see any blood anywhere but I swear it squirted lol!!!
Oh, yeah! It's happened several times. I don't know why, but it's upsetting when it gets all over your clean shirt or blouse that you just put on in order to go somewhere, and you were due to leave 5 minutes ago!!
This happens to me every once in a while. I think it's because I prick my fingers so much that they then partially heal over, so when the blood comes out it's forced out at an angle and/or through a smaller hole and squirts everywhere ... It's even landed in my eye before!
Ah yes, the squirter. When it sprays in your own face it is also youtube worthy. My other problem is continued bleeding. I am always testing and then going on about my business leaving blood fingerprints all over the house. The only thing my wife hates more than that is the drops of blood on my dress shirts from injecting through my clothing.
I always lick up the blood, I don't want to waste any protein. I try not to do that on the fingerprints, but a box of cookies would be really tempting.
ha, this has happened to me too. especially if i test right after i get out of the shower. my blood seems thinner when my blood sugars are low and i tend to get squirters then.
Squirters are a part of life and often quite humorous. Just don't hit strangers as they do not seem to understand for some reason! Squirters and drops of blood that appear on my finger after I have licked it clean are why I rarely wear white anymore.
I learned the hard way. If there is a pause of more than a few seconds between when I use the lancet and when I squeeze my finger, that can allow the blood in the tiny hole to coagualate. Then, when I squeeze gently and nothing happens and I, being human, squeeze a bit harder, suddenly the pressure explodes that tiny blood clot off and out comes Vesuvius.
The trick to avoid them is to produce the blood drop as soon as you have used the lancet.
Rules for squirters:
1. You will be wondering why there is no blood, so you will be looking at the spot. So nine times out of ten it will hit you in the eyes.
2. You will always be wearing a white shirt or blouse and it will occur hours before you can go home and change.
3. There will always be an audience.
4. If food, important papers or expensive fabrics or furnishings are in the vicinity the spray of blood is magnetically attracted to them.
5. If you are not wearing a white top someone important in the vicinity will be. Their top will also magnetically attract the spray.
