I recently came down with my first cold since diagnosis last February. Nothing too serious, but moderate coughing and congestion. My basal rates seem to be okay, but my numbers after eating seem to be running 30-100 points higher than normal and it seems to take more insulin to correction the numbers back down. Have any of you found this to be typcial during a cold with Type 1 or is something else causing this?
I'm horrible but if I feel something coming on, I'll let my BG drift low and then treat it with a couple of strong cocktails to create a horrible environment for the germs. All my sick days since about 2008 or 9 are marathon or surgery related, no illnesses. I'm a very small sample size and, of course, this sort of thing is not recommended by any responsible medical authorities...
Yes, absolutely.
Illness always throws my control out of whack.
Heck, I know I'm getting sick 3 to 4 days before I get any symptoms! My blood sugars will triple and it takes three or four times my regular amount of insulin to even have an effect and sometimes no matter what I do I can't get it down. Whish I could take advantage and go see the Dr. and get treated for whatever the illness is that I'm GOING to be getting!Ha!
I noticed mine crept up too a few days before I had symptoms. Good to know. Thanks!
haha
Good to know...thanks!
