In my experience I really wish these groups would crunch the numbers…
An ounce or two of prevention is worth a pound of cure…
Having a little more maintenence expense has GOT to be cheaper then paying for multiple ER visits by anyones calculations… or surgery, or worse (a kidney transplant or other such procedures)
Gee if adding extra strips would save your kidneys or even postpone it a few years. thats cheaper than a transplant!
Yes, I’m on United Health Care and have to go through Edge Park to get my Pods. I’m also guessing if Medicare doesn’t yet cover Omnipod, they should cover another insulin pump, such as Medtronic or Animas. It’s a shame to go back to tubes, but it sure beats MDI. Also, I’ve heard but don’t know that Medicare won’t cover the Medtronic CGM, either.
It is very unfair if Medicare won’t cover Omnipod, but Omnipod supplies (Pods) are more expensive than infusion sets and cartridges, so maybe that’s the justification. You probably need your endo to list several reasons like high A1C, hypoglycemia unawareness, frequent hypo and hyperglycemic episodes on MDI, etc. to get Medicare or your new insurance company to pay for any insulin pump.
