Hmmm… and what if that one test strip per day that you sacrificed was the one that might have kept you from having a hypoglycemic reaction behind the wheel of a car, or the one that might have kept you from realizing that your insulin pump infusion site had gone bad and that your BG was in the mid 300’s and was going to keep on rising!! Donate money to Haitian earthquake relief, sure - just do not sacrifice your own health to do so.
Enough with the “what a bad idea it is to give up a test strip to donate the money” comments already. How many times does someone have to say that it was a metaphor before some people get it?
I, personally, found it very clear and easy to understand what the man was saying. Give up a test strip, a coffee, something, anything, so we can help those who are in far worse conditions than us.
You’re so worried about your one little test strip when there’s children in Haiti that have lost everything! I seriously can’t even believe this discussion has come to this level. We are all sitting here high and mighty complaining about giving up a test strip as we type on our expensive computers and are living relatively good lives (remember it’s all about perspective) while there’s children out there who’ve just gone through HELL and have nothing to look forward to.
Shame on us!
Everybody needs a very large dose of a “perspective shot” before we start complaining about our “oh so terrible affliction.” I’d love to see some of you go to Haiti and look one of those children in the eye and say to them “sorry I can’t help you because I have to test my blood sugar before I get in my car to go buy me some Starbucks. Good luck dealing with the corpses of your dead parents as you watch them rot before your eyes. You’re so fortunate to be so young and unable to comprehend that the one source of true love for you in this world is forever gone. Hmmm, maybe I should get a grande mocha latte with cinnamon twist on the way home. See ya!”
What has this world come to?
Pavlos , I really do not feel shamed about what I stated as you remarked . I am known to be straight forward , so I understand the headline of this discusion to be STRAIGHT FORWARD ; metaphor …I have to look the word up on google …come on Pavlos …we plan to donate before this discussion came up …this is a very emotional event here in our world , so be kind to us , who have a heart…and may not speak the same words ( language ) you do .
Robyn , I got a bit ( maybe a lot ) hooked, by what Pavlos is saying and I responded just before I saw yours …I could go on and on and on here and decided I will not .
PS wonder why the response does not show ?
I apologize if I was a little harsh with people who did not necessarily fall into the large net of shame I cast upon us all. The rest . . . feel free to ask for help when you need it most; I hope the world remembers your pettiness if that time ever comes.
Jon,
Thank you for your kind heart. Sorry you’ve been criticized for trying to get an important message out. And people wonder why there’s so much hate & miscommunication in the world between countries when members here jump on someone for suggesting something as simple as giving to others.
Some years ago we offered my niece & nephews a gift giving alternative for their birthdays & Christmas. Instead of presents, they picked out a grassroots non-profit organization for us to donate to in their name. We asked that they tell us why they thought that organization was a good cause.
