Found a solution to the Medtronic button error issue

Use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the cover so you can easily lift it with a razor. When installing it, place the cover on the pump and reheat it then apply pressure to the outside corners so the glue settles back in when it cools.

I have managed :) Button is working! Only drying haven't solved problem. Cleaning with alcohol and extra drying solved this issue. Many thanks Krispy! will repeat the same- shame on Medtronic. Representatives from 2 countries haven't solved buttons problem. I got only offer to buy new equipment. Unfortunately for the money from my own pocket.

Sometimes the moisture in there is sweat from your body so it leaves a residue that is electrically conductive so simple drying won't solve it. You need the spray a good amount of 90%+ pure alcohol into the circuit to get rid of the buildup. If the pump has been sitting like this for a while, there is a good chance corrosion has built up on the gold contacts so you will need to use a little bit of white vinegar to neutralize the corrosion then clean it with alcohol.

I wear only monitoring, not pump. But I was 100% sure that this equipment is water proof. It seems not. Medtronic have to publish such information in their sites as such issues confusing users and creates additional problems.
I have one more issue with my Guardian real time monitoring. Some time ago equipment lost vibration function. In some cases Self test restored it, now not possible to have vibration at all.

The part that makes it vibrate probably went bad. It's too difficult to replace it so you will have to live without it.

Hi dear krispykris,
U actually saved my day! (and the rest of my holiday)
I was in a deserted and far from civilization beach in Tanzania, on a weekend of a holiday, and I guess the pump got wet or it got affected from the high humidity, and I got the button error screaming at me. I'm using a sensor as well, so no insulin and no blood sugar indication. Of course I had syringes and insulin, but over ten years I'm using the pump (a month with the sensor).
I live in Israel, so I contacted the emergency service, the on call lady told me there is nothing to do and that Tanzania doesn't have service of Medtronic. She asked if I took the battery out (Da!!!), and their recommendation was to deal with it when I return home, and they will replace it (they replace without special insurance! That's great).
After a few seconds, my brother from Israel searched the internet and sent me your post. The Medtronic service asked me not to try to fix it by myself.
There was no hair dryer where I stayed, barely had electricity.. We used the air from the ice machine, but it wasn't that strong.. later on, my friend remembered that rice can dry things, and we ran into a similar suggestion in the responds on your post. After a few hours, the error changed and disappeared, and the pump started working again!
The escape button doesn't always respond, and I hope that till the day I return to Israel, in two days time, the pump will keep its good job.
BTW, I've been told the 722 pump could be used for swimming. Is that not true? (I didn't check it..)
Thanks again!!!

Wow....never a dull moment eh??

When I had my first 522 they claimed you could swim with then for 20 minutes (something around that anyway).
They later sent out retractions stating that it wasn't water tight at all, and to simply not do it ever.
Note that they didn't offer to refund money back for people who had bought the pump with this feature in mind :)

Since then I believe they still claim that they are only splash resistant.

I say this because I presume the 722 is the same, and while you can buy water tight housings for them, you likely cannot swim with them unbagged.

The rice trick still works for me, and I'm currently trying to fix a waterlogged continuous glucose monitor that is somehow holding onto shower water. :(

I did start using a pump cover (an MP3 case no less) with my pump and since starting that have had no further button sticking issues. Perhaps there simply needs to be a barrier in place to help things ventilate.
Mutes the audio unfortunately, but nothing is perfect.

How do you peel back the adhesive tape over buttons Paradigm pump 511 cant find it help
vickie751@gmail.com

I believe Kris was referring to the flexible plastic covering itself.

The whole button array is covered by a (on my pump) dark gray L-shaped adhesive held strip.

I have not had to ever attempt to move it. I think it would take a pretty dire situation to get me to. Perhaps if I had another pump on the way, etc.

Rob.

I I have another loaner pump but still in dire situation. I am going to try Will let you know. I borrowed my brothers pump and can not return with button error. It is off warranty. This cant happen to me

Thanks a million for this, you saved me today! Luckily I work with some computer techs and we took off the buttons and cleaned the contacts.

You have to carefully remove the label that covers the buttons, and the carefully remove the silver buttons. We lifted the silver buttons from the bolus wizard button to the volume up button, leaving the top end of the volume up still attached to the pump so we could realign it. Used 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean the contacts between the silver buttons and the gold contacts. Re attached the buttons, and the carefully laid crazy glue along the edges of the button label and reattached it.

I should warn after doing this, you will be making your pump more open to water, so no more liquid exposure! Also will likely void the warranty if you are in warranty.

On a related note, syringes can be very useful for stuff like applying thin beads of crazy glue!

Great tip, thanks!

This error happened on my wife’s 722 pump tonight… like many said before, Medtronic says we have to buy a new pump. They shipped a temporary one to arrive here tomorrow, but fortunately I found this website and was able to fix the error by removing the buttons and cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol, so thankfully she can rest easy through the night!

Thank you for posting these tips…

Now the bad news… the warranty on her pump ran out 6 days ago and so we just missed the warranty period and will have to buy a new one. Has anyone had success getting Medtronic to admit they have a problem, and replace pumps that receive this error?

thanks again!

The button fix is permanent. If not just do it again, don’t pay out of pocket for a pump.

thank uu so much!!!

why do these things happen on a saturday…

Omg thank you so much every one. My button said it was sticking tonight and I noticed the past few weeks they were a little slow I always keep my pump in my bra and I am a runner so I know moisture gets on it. This is my second pump. I took the lettering off and the clear tape stuff blow dryer it and it did not help. I then took a cotton swab of alcohol and rubbed it on multiple times using g the blow dryer after every time. Multiple things came up low batt…etc… time 12/ 24 converstion… finally everything cleared. Seems to be working fine its only been 5 min lol. Keep g fingers crossed…man us users are soooo spoiled only used a needle twice but still… love yall have a great night.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! We are out of the country and the Medronic help line does not work from Jamaica. My husband just started getting this dreaded error and we had no way of getting help. I was about to start looking for a pharmacy to buy syringes when we found your post. This was a total life saver. Thank you again.
