There is a lot of research going on in my part of the world into the genetic make up of diabetes 1. So far they have found 40 genes that are involved in T1 and they think there are more. They also say that the research has also found that diabetes shares a genetic link with coeliac and thyroid disease as well as T2 diabetes. This research is supported by Diabetes Australia, W. Australia. So far they have been working for 10 years on this. So far they see this knowledge as being able to prevent people getting diabetes, but who knows what will happen.
