19 years type1 with injections, carb counting. May 18th will go in for a pump. Can anyone advise me how I should be ready for my first meeting. I quite excited and want to avoid delays. Is there a post already on Tudiabetes and where is it?
Thanks,
Sid
Here is one discussion - a lot of people have gotten that book, “Pumping Insulin” - I think the author’s name is Walsh. Write down any questions on a big pad of paper as you think of them, so you don’t forget when the trainer comes. One important thing is, what to do if your pump malfunctions or you have some kind of accident with it? Make sure you have ordered all your supplies every month, because you can’t get infusion sets at the drug store. Be ready to test more - as the insulin in there is all the fast type, you can get into trouble a little faster if you are not getting good absorption, or if the cannula is kinked or something. But anyway, Sid, I am very excited for you! Keep us well posted, please. I’ve been pumping about 19 years of my 41 w/ diabetes, always using the Accu-chek Spirit/Disetronic HTron (same company).
Thanks Marie,
I do have Pumping Insulin ordered from the library. Picking it up tomorrow!. I also have info from Paradigm and Animas by mail. Read them both and feel ready. Will check out the discussion group. Been on Tudiabetes a couple months and all of you are great and helpful! I am not afraid to as questions and somewhat agressive. I just want to be ready. Thanks again and will keep you posted.

I read the book Insulin Pump Therapy Demystefied, it really helped me make my decision
Sidney, I waited 29 years before trying pumping. You will love your first morning breakfast, trust me. =) good luck. I’ve been pumping for 2 years and a lil bit and it’s been great for me. Cheers!
Buy the book pumping insulin by John Walsh. You will be a pumping pro in the blink of an eye!!
